Bunny – Inspired by Lulu

Bunny and Fawn are back, embarking on an exciting adventure to solve a great mystery: what creature lurks in the forest? Put your thinking caps on and join them on this thrilling journey!

The story begins by giving readers a recap of The Adventures of Bunny and Fawn, explaining how the friends came to live close to a brown bear named Bear. The three animals loved being neighbors. The drawing of Bear playfully tossing Bunny into the water was both cute and funny, and so was the one where Bear tossed the “creature” into the water, too.

The creature’s identity was a great mystery. I had an idea of what it was going to be before opening the book, but I was in for a surprise. Have your child or class guess its identity and see if their guess is correct. Ask your audience if they have heard of the mysterious creature’s name before, and then explain its meaning. It’s not a simple, common name like ‘Bunny’ and ‘Bear.’ (No spoilers.)

The Adventures of Bunny and Fawn beautifully illustrate why it is crucial not to make assumptions about someone. Instead of judging someone by how they look, take a moment to get to know them. You might learn something new or even make a new friend!

Join Bunny, Fawn, and Bear as they embark on a quest to discover who left the hoof prints, made the strange noises, and also had glowed like a flashlight in the night. Laugh as you watch Bear poke his head out from a fall-colored tree top and see Bunny holding tight to Fawn’s neck as they poke their heads out from the middle of a bush.

Great mystery. Funny illustrations. This story is sure to be a hit with family and educators. It did have a couple of hard-to-read spots, but other than that, it was picture-perfect and very entertaining.

Recommended reading age is 3 to 8 years.

Burnie and Chloe are back, and this time, they’re joined by an unexpected and unwelcome visitor: a chipmunk.

After playing outside, Burnie and Chloe are heading inside for a nap. As they walk inside, Chloe swears something zooms past them and into the house. Burnie thinks Chloe’s super sleepy state causes her to imagine a guest has followed them inside. Burnie quickly finds out that Chloe is right; a chipmunk is making itself at home in their house.

Have you ever watched videos showing people trying desperately to get a rodent out of their home? How about ones where our beloved companions decide to help us in the extraction of the vermin? If you heart these videos, you will love The Adventures of Burnie & Chloe: Burnie Meets a Chipmunk. In it, two dogs work together to find and rid their home of an unwanted guest. Unlike the videos online or on TV, no humans were swinging brooms or nets. Nothing was struck, broken, or knocked over in pursuit of the chipmunk. Yes, the two dogs did chase the chipmunk upstairs and downstairs, but the chase ended almost as quickly as it began—the dogs besting the rodent.

Chipmunks are cute when they are outside; inside, not so much. Thank goodness Ava and her dad had two brave dogs who showed the rodent the door—literally! Young kids will love watching the chipmunk evade Burnie and Chloe. Many readers will chuckle watching the chipmunk steal food from the dogs’ food bowls. Too cute! Yes, there were proportion issues between the canines and the furniture. However, what stood out for me the most was the illustrations on page 29; the dogs appear to be going up the staircase sideways.

I enjoyed reading The Adventures of Burnie & Chloe: Burnie Meets a Chipmunk, and I know your family will, too. I recommend this book and every book in the Burnie and Chloe series!

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Reedsy Discovery.  I voluntarily chose to read and post an honest review.

We love our canine companions, and they love us right back. We grow attached to them, and it stands to reason they grow just as attached to us. Leaving your beloved pet at home alone can be stressful. Dogs might express themselves through destructive behavior, vocalization, or soiling the inside of your home. Some owners take their pet(s) to a doggie daycare during work hours to avoid unfavorable behavior and to give them a play friend for the day. When a person will be gone multiple days, like in the case of Burnie and Chloe’s owners, they ‘board’ their pet(s). Most dogs embrace the new location; it’s a place to make new friends, sniff out new scents, or play with new toys. But not every dog welcomes their temporary home. The new sounds, smells, and faces frighten them. They miss their human(s) and wish they would come back.

Burnie isn’t thrilled Ava dropped him off at Camp Wag-A-Tail. (Cute name, by the way!) His accommodations were pretty sweet compared to most boarding facilities I’ve seen, but as homey as they were and looked, they still weren’t his home. Burnie missed his human. Missed his home. On the other hand, Chloe wanted to explore the new area and meet the other dogs. She encouraged Burnie to have fun while they were there. Burnie’s mood didn’t change once the pair were outdoors, so Chloe did what any good friend would do in a similar situation—she devised a plan to cheer him up—make his frown turn upside down!

I loved the image of the five dogs hiding behind trees, mimicking the game of hide-and-seek. I can see why Burnie couldn’t resist joining in on the fun. Chloe taught Burnie to embrace the change and see it as a new and fun adventure. After reading this delightful story, I hope readers will follow Chloe’s example and be open to new adventures. I also hope they will be there for their friends when their buddies are sad, lonely, scared, or anxious.

As lovely as the story was, I noticed minor text placement/presentation issues. For example, on page 23, the hook in the two y’s in “yummy” touches the roof’s ridge, almost making the y’s look like u’s. I would move the block text up a smidge to avoid overlapping letters with the scenery. I loved the glow effect behind the text on page 32. It made the text pop off the pages. I recommend using the text effect on every page in the next book.

I recommend you share this spectacular story with your family and/or class.
