Phenomenal X by Michelle A. Valentine (Book Review)

Good Girl. Notorious Bad-Boy. One Phenomenal Love.

From the mean streets of Detroit rises the newest superstar of professional wrestling, Xavier Cold, better known as Phenomenal X.

His muscular physique makes men cower before him and woman lose their minds with desire.

Anna Cortez is fresh out of college and naive to the harsh realities of the real world. Tired of living under the thumb of her conservative family, she defies them when she accepts a job as the assistant to wrestling’s most notorious bad-boy. Phenomenal X has an animalistic nature that even good girl Anna finds hard to resist.

One night forced to share a bed in a sold-out hotel, lines blur between them and they quickly learn that one lustful night changes everything and neither one of them will ever be the same.

When I was a kid, I was hooked on professional wrestling. I was glued to the screen, mesmerized by the bigger than life stars and the action in the ring. When I reached my twenties, I went to a show. Even though I knew the fights were staged, I was still wrapped up in the wonder of the show.

Now in my thirties, I no long watch wrestling but I can still appreciate the dedication of everyone who constructs such elaborate storylines, builds up the characters, and the showmanship presented several days a week. It’s still awe-inspiring.

For that, I found myself drawn to Xavier. A bad boy wrestler with a huge heart…. HECK YEAH!

My only complaint with this story was…. it was just more of the same. Troubled alpha male who’s traumatic past weaves doubt in his mind that he can love anyone, if he’s even worthy of anyone’s love in return.

Then, boom – pow- whammo, he realizes he can love someone and someone can love him as well.

See, nothing new but it was still a mighty fine story.

 Warning: cliffhanger ending!

Review of “Possessing the Witch” – Elle James and “Siren’s Call” – Debbie Herbert

Possessing the Witch by Elle James
Selene Chattox doesn’t know what—or who—she’ll find when she follows her premonition to the river’s edge. When she discovers Gryph Leone, the spirit witch brings the injured stranger home, determined to resist the desire he stirs. But as he heals, she knows fate has brought them together. And as their passion ignites, so does the danger…

Siren’s Callby Debbie Herbert
Lily Borsage is the ultimate siren: gorgeous, aloof, and irresistible to all men in Bayou La Siryna. That is, until Nashoba Bowman returns to town. The Native American kid whose innocent first kiss Lily remembers fondly is all grown up, hot as an Alabama summer—and immune to Lily’s charms. What self-respecting mermaid could resist finding out more?

Witches, shifters, and psychopaths should’ve held my interest but unfortunately I found the stories lacking in intrigue. The whack-jobs’ identities were no mystery at all and their climatic demises were far from climatic. Here I thought a battle between a wolf and lion (Possessing the Witch) would be epic. It was epic… epic fail.
Same disappointing battle between Nash/Lily/and their nemesis.

The Hook Up by Kristen Callihan (Book Review)

The rules: no kissing on the mouth, no staying the night, no telling anyone, and above all… No falling in love.

Anna Jones just wants to finish college and figure out her life. Falling for star quarterback Drew Baylor is certainly not on her to do list. Confident and charming, he lives in the limelight and is way too gorgeous for his own good. If only she could ignore his heated stares and stop thinking about doing hot and dirty things with him. Easy right?

Too bad he’s committed to making her break every rule…

Football has been good to Drew. It’s given him recognition, two National Championships, and the Heisman. But what he really craves is sexy yet prickly Anna Jones. Her cutting humor and blatant disregard for his fame turns him on like nothing else. But there’s one problem: she’s shut him down. Completely.

That is until a chance encounter leads to the hottest sex of their lives, along with the possibility of something great. Unfortunately, Anna wants it to remain a hook up. Now it’s up to Drew to tempt her with more: more sex, more satisfaction, more time with him. Until she’s truly hooked. It’s a good thing Drew knows all about winning.

All’s fair in love and football…Game on

There are few times I can say a book surpasses my expectations.
The Hook Up’s cover was eye-catching, the book summary piqued my interest, and the contents of the pages had me smiling and flushed on many occasions.
Drew and Anna’s relationship had humor, anguish, and a multitude of steamy sexcapades.
This book was damn near perfect. My only flaw with it was ………I didn’t want it to end. That, my folks, doesn’t happen often to me.

This book depicts small town living to a tee.
Everyone will know your business and won’t hesitate to stick their noses into it. It’s truly hard to have any secrets.
However, the bright spot of small towns (also illustrated in this tale) is how people band together in good times and especially in bad.
If you’ve ever lived in a small town (like myself), you know how important a single business can be and when it goes under, families go under with it.
In Under the Lights, friends and neighbors banded together to save a football program which to some might seem like nothing but to them it was everything.
Again, since my school had little in the way of money, I’m glad all their hard work paid off because this town needed a win desperately.
