Review of the Circe’s Recruits – Marie Harte

Book 1 in series
Format: Print
Neither human nor animal, but something in between, Circe’s Recruits stop rogues bent on killing…

Roane
Run by Elliot Pearl, a ruthless millionaire, Pearson Labs continues to create Circs, people who have been genetically changed. When needed, these Circs take on an altered form, one neither man nor animal, but something in between. But unlike Roane Weston and his squad, known as Circe’s Recruits, the Circs coming out of Pearson Labs aren’t sane… Except for Caitlyn Chase, a female Roane can’t get out of his mind.
As Caitlyn matures into the female Circ she was meant to be, she sets in motion a chain of events that will forever alter her future and those of Circe’s Recruits. Only with Roane and her newfound friends can she hope to keep the PPA at bay while they crush an agenda that may spell the end of them all.

Zack & Ace

Zack and Ace have been dancing around their “just friends” relationship for years. Being Circ means unavoidable intimacy when the mating heat strikes, and it’s putting a strain on their friendship. They’re finally nearing an understanding about what they truly mean to each other when they’re stunned by Kelly, the woman they’ve been lusting after for years. Suddenly she’s available to both in a way she’s never been before. Lust and love confuse the issue, until wounded emotions pull the threesome apart and Kelly is captured by the enemy. Can Zack and Ace come to grips with their differences in time to save Kelly, or will their difficulties lose them the loves of their lives?

PUBLISHER’S NOTE
This book contains explicit sexual content, graphic language, and situations some readers may find objectionable: Anal play/intercourse, male/male sexual practices, ménage (m/f/m with m/m sexual interaction), sex in shifted form, violence.
For me, the intimate scenes Robbie were involved in pushed my level of comfort to the max.  There were so moments of “hotness” and many moments of “yeah, I’m not okay with this”.
Maybe you’ll agree. Maybe you won’t. I’d love to hear your thoughts on this story so don’t be shy. SPEAK UP!!
For the plot…. I wasn’t surprised who Robbie was – happy to see Doc get his HEA – and the bad guy go adios.

Review of “Beverly Hills Demon Slayer” – Angie Fox

51hp9cngc1l-_sx322_bo1204203200_
All that glitters is not gold…

Demon slayer Lizzie Brown isn’t exactly a diamonds and champagne type of girl. But when an ancient cult becomes the “in” thing in Beverly Hills, she realizes there’s more to it than youth potions, parties, and priceless Egyptian artifacts. There’s a demon involved…and Lizzie’s not on the guest list.

She goes in undercover, along with her sexy Greek shape-shifter husband, her biker witch buddies, and a dog that is way too fond of free appetizers and the red carpet lifestyle. Between dodging detection and uncovering ancient secrets, Lizzie has her hands full. And when the demon manages to hook his claws into Lizzie’s eternal soul, she’s afraid she may be stepping out for her final event.

This series happens to be one of my favorite ones to follow. I adore the biker chicks and Pirate (the pooch). He reminds so much of Scrappy Doo and who doesn’t like the sarcastic, ball of energy. He even has his “Let me at them” attitude.

And Dimitri…. He’s just so Mmmmmmm!

If you haven’t read the Slayer books yet, I highly recommend you do. The pages seem to fly by in a flash and even though I hate to see the story end, I’m thankful her stories don’t drag.

Review of “The Troublemaker Next Door” – Marie Harte

When Flynn McCauley meets Maddie Gardner, sparks fly. She hates men. He’s not into relationships. She lost her job. He fixed her sink—but that’s not all he wants to fix. When a ride home turns into a lot more, Maddie and Flynn decide to keep things strictly casual. Strictly sexual. They won’t date. And they end up not dating…a lot. But soon Flynn wants more from the wary redhead. If he can just keep her distracted long enough to burrow under her skin, Flynn might convince Maddie they have a shot at real happiness. That’s if Maddie can overcome her past to take a chance on the future.
Review

This is my first time reading anything by Marie and I can say (without any doubts) I LOVE HER WRITING SKILLS!
I laughed my tush off watching the McCauley brothers interact. And little Colin, he was just way too cute for words. I can’t wait for Karma to catch up to Brody for creating a devious little con man. When he has kids of his own, the uncles are sure to make sure his kids give daddy hell. Payback is a bitch, Brody!
HA!
As for Flynn and Maddie — Dayum! For a couple who aren’t technically a couple, they sure sizzled every time they got near other. The sex scenes were deliciously HAWT – bondage, BJ’s in vehicles, sex in back room of a club, phone sex, and the constant teasing of each other.
I can’t say how much I loved book one in the series. Yes, I already preordered book 2-4. *big smile*

Review of “Dead Witch Walking” – Kim Harrison

US Cover
Foreign Editions’ Covers
Source: Kim Harrison’s Website

All the creatures of the night gather in “the Hollows” of Cincinnati, to hide, to prowl, to party … and to feed.

Vampires rule the darkness in a predator-eat-predator world rife with dangers beyond imagining — and it’s Rachel Morgan’s job to keep that world civilized.

A bounty hunter and witch with serious sex appeal and an attitude, she’ll bring ’em back alive, dead … or undead.

Review!

This is the first full-length novel I’ve read by KIm. I picked it up at the store because the back cover intrigued me and I wanted a new author to read.

Did I like it the story? Well, that’s a hard question to answer. I didn’t think it was overly bad, just slow and drawn-out.

For me, I can usually finish a 400 page book in a couple days. This one I finished in five. That’s how I knew I wasn’t “into” it.

However, I did like one aspect of this novel or should I say one “being” – Jenks.

The pixy was absolutely the show stealer!!!!

Heart rating system – 1 (lowest) and 5 (highest)

Score: ❤❤❤ (because of Jenks)

Review of “Nauti Enchantress” – Lora Leigh

When Dawg Mackay made his four half-sisters part of his family, he vowed that he would care for and protect them with everything he had. But what happens now that the girls are all grown up? The Mackay girls are on the loose, and Somerset County will never be the same…

Lyrica Mackay has wanted tall, handsome Marine Graham Brock for as long as she can remember. Unfortunately, Graham only sees her as his friend Dawg Mackay’s “baby sister.” Or so she believes. The truth is, the fiery party girl stirs something in Graham no female ever has. But Graham, like everyone in Somerset County, knows that trouble stalks the Mackays like bears track honey, and when a Mackay runs as hot as Lyrica does, someone’s bound to get burned.

Then Graham discovers that Lyrica’s wild side is just a cover for a frightened and vulnerable woman who needs something true and genuine, something only Graham can offer. But surrendering his heart to Lyrica exposes them both to her shocking past—and a sinister secret that, once exposed, could destroy their only chance at happiness and shake the Mackay family to its core.

~Brief Thoughts~

Action….action….and more action!

Yup, this latest installment was jammed packed full of heat. And as for the plot, it didn’t get lost or felt unfinished/rushed.

But the real kicker that makes me itch to read the next Nauti Girl’s story and NOW was the last three lines of the epilogue. Talk about a cliffhanger!

Fans of her series, I bet you’re dying to read the book now. <evil cackle>

Review of the “The L.O.S.T. Trilogy” – R.S. Collins and S.R. Vaught

Seventeen-year-old Brenden McAllister can’t wait to prove himself to his overprotective parents—and enjoy the beach! Despite problems related to his ADHD, he’s finally on his own, allowed to borrow his mom’s truck and travel to his best friend’s house in California. It’s great. In fact, it’s perfect until he makes a pit stop in a tiny desert town called Live Oak Springs Township.

Something’s off in L.O.S.T., like that witchy girl in the general store, and a greasy guy that gives him an ominous warning. Weird, for sure. Maybe even a little frightening. Bren plans to take care of business and get back on the road.

Except, somebody stole his mom’s truck. And that witchy girl, she’s starting to change into something with glowing eyes and sparkling fingernails. And what’s with the bats and finger joints for sale in that creepy store? Before Bren can even yell, “Foul ball!” he’s trapped in a world of mysterious magic and terrible danger—maybe forever—unless he can find the power in his blood, become a champion of prophecy, and defeat the most evil being who ever lived.

No pressure, right?

Jasmina Corey knows Bren may be the solution to her biggest problem. He has a warrior’s heart and the strongest spark of magic she’s ever found. As Queen of the Witches, it’s up to her to save her people from the vicious, murdering Shadowmaster, and Bren might be strong enough to fight beside her. Too bad he can’t pay attention. Too bad he’s so impulsive. And he knows nothing about magic, he hates her guts, and he doesn’t want anything to do with his destiny.

He’ll get over being kidnapped. Sure he will! She can teach him what he needs to know. Sure she can!

Bren strains her optimism to the breaking point, but Jasmina’s out of choices and out of time. She has to find a way to reach Bren, and to work with him to take out the Shadowmaster for good. The fate of the witching world—of the whole world—rests squarely on her nervous shoulders.

No pressure. Right. No pressure at all…

The day Jazz Corey died, Bren McAllister lost a piece of himself. He knows he’ll never be whole again, and this King of the Witches gig—not his style. But he’s trying. He knows that’s the only way to honor the girl he loved, the girl he still loves, the girl he’ll always love. With the help of his father and brother, not to mention Jazz’s grumpy advisors, he’s rebuilding Live Oak Springs Township, and restoring the Path to its full glory. He’s able to keep his mind on his new royal job until the moment he realizes Jazz might be alive . . . sort of. She might be waiting for him to come get her. And if he doesn’t hurry, it might be too late.

It’s simple. All he has to do is turn his back on everyone who believes in him, find a passage no one has ever seen, unlock it with a key no one understands, defeat an evil monster no one can name, cross through some gate that doesn’t exist, and die without dying.

No big deal, right?

Jasmina Corey knows death shouldn’t be like this. It’s dark and cold, and everything hurts, and Shadows keep chasing her. Shadows and big stinky things with wings. Worse than that, a know-it-all peacock is stalking her, and the stupid bird won’t shut up. Where is she, really? How is she supposed to get out?

Jazz knows she’s losing herself, and she has to get out of . . . wherever she is. And get back to . . . who was that handsome boy with brown eyes? Was she a witch before, or is that just another dream, like the fanged monster breathing down her neck while the peacock screams?

She’s smart. She can figure this out. She knows that just as sure as she knows that she’s the daughter of . . .

Never mind.

Jazz has to hold on to her fading mind and find Bren, because something’s coming for her. It’s huge, and it’s evil, and it wants what’s left of her soul.

Nothing to fear but fear itself? Right. Whoever said that never tried to walk out of death—or run.

King of the Witches. Queen of the Witches. Bren and Jazz are finally together, and finally safe. They should have it made, right?

Except for Bren’s terrifying vision of the Shadowmaster escaping her prison, Jazz’s nightmares and growing jealousy, mysterious girls with special abilities showing up at random, and old witch factions going to war with peaceful refugees…

Safety turns to desperate danger when a shapeshifting dwarf kidnaps Bren’s brother, the sanctuaries erupt in riots and bloodshed, and Bren and Jazz face a crisis of trust that threatens to tear apart their relationship—and the witching world. It’s obvious something dreadful has descended upon L.O.S.T., but what? Bren and Jazz must find a way to stand together, or watch everything they have built tear itself apart.

~Overall Review and Star Rating~
❤❤❤1/2

When I purchased this series, I had no clue it was generated towards the young adult crowd. It was suggested to me from a fellow author through a newsletter and since the book summaries sounded intriguing, I decided to give it a shot.

All in all, I liked the series and I think it will be a hit with the younger folks. Heck, I could see 30+ readers enjoying it as well. It has witches, hags, elves, harpies, and many more mystical/magical beings.

Parents, as far as intimate moments, only kissing occurs in the story. Again I want to stress, the lead roles are played by teenagers.
