Leslie’s Magic Rainboots by Laurie Perreault (Book Review)

Leslie never expected a pair of rainboots to change her life. But when she slips them on during a stormy morning, the world begins to shimmer with possibility. Raindrops whisper secrets, puddles ripple with memory, and every step leads her into a hidden realm where kindness mends forgotten places, and wild spaces, where nature still hums with memory waiting for someone to listen.

Leslie loved rainy days, and she loved the bright blue polka-dotted rain boots that her grandma gifted her. They had been passed down from mother to daughter over several generations. Even though the boots were very old, they looked brand new. How is this possible? Well, these weren’t your ordinary rain boots. They were magical!

Leslie loved jumping in puddles, but today, the puddle sparkled and transported her into a world where a frog greeted Leslie and called her the new “Guardian of the Magic Rainboots.” The talking frog informed Leslie that the boots can take her to faraway places, but the magic can only be activated with kindness and a pure heart. What a sweet idea! I love that the story promotes kindness. Leslie asked to visit the Land of the Talking Animals first. Ask young listeners where they would visit first if their footwear were magical?

The Land of the Talking Animals faces a real-life problem: the river has stopped flowing. No water leads to more issues, like a lack of clean drinking water and habitat loss. The story shows how kindness and teamwork can solve problems, inspiring children to think about helping others in their own communities and around the world.

What was causing the flow of water to cease? How did the child fix the problem? You’ll have to read the story to find out, and I highly recommend you do. Leslie’s Magic Rainboots takes readers on a magical journey where adventures await, and kindness reigns supreme. The illustrations were adorable, and the story’s plot was sweet. I did notice the author wrote the footwear with and without a space, but that inconsistency didn’t diminish the story’s overall uplifting theme: be kind and help others.

Kids and adults will love the magical and heartwarming story. It promotes kindness, kind hearts, helping others, and having fun in the rain. I recommend jumping in puddles and reading this story, just not at the same time. My recommended reading age is 3-9 years.

(Special note: Rain boots was written as presented in the story’s title and in the script.)

Ritter and Coco’s Rainy Day by Kierra Mohr (Book Review)

Rain or shine, the best adventures are shared with a friend!

The anticipation of a fun-filled picnic day at the park is shattered when unexpected rain dampens Ritter and Coco’s plans. However, the two friends quickly turn disappointment into an opportunity for creativity and imagination. With the guidance of Coco’s mother, the children start their day filled with indoor adventures- creating a blanket fort, playing with trucks, and enjoying each other’s company.

They become so busy playing and imagining, they don’t even realize that the storm outside has cleared, revealing a bright, blue sky. Through their resilience and positive outlook, Ritter and Coco learn that the joy of spending time with a friend can turn even a rainy day into one of the best days of the year.

Ritter and Coco’s Rainy Day, wonderfully illustrated and written in rhymes, provides a valuable lesson for young readers about adapting to change and finding joy in unexpected moments.

Get your copy today and help your little ones navigate their emotions and learn to deal with change positively in this brightly illustrated, rhyming story of friendship. Perfect for ages 2-5.

Weather affects all of our daily activities. We might hit the beach, visit an amusement park, or head to the park when it’s nice and sunny. On snow days, children often build snowmen, sledding, or engage in an epic snowball fight. It’s typical for people to plan or schedule their day based on the meteorologist’s forecast. But what happens when the weather takes an unexpected turn for the worse? That’s precisely what happened in this storybook.

Ritter and Coco have their whole day planned out: play at the park and enjoy goodies from their picnic basket. However, their plans went up in smoke when an unexpected storm rolled in. They were rightfully disappointed. They didn’t understand why it was storming when the forecast signaled clear skies. As your child reads or listens to the story, they might question how or why the weather changes so quickly. Depending on your child’s age, they might ask what “forecasted” means. Take this an opportunity to expand your child’s vocabulary!

Coco and Ritter were visibly upset by the sudden storm with due reason. Instead of crying, sulking, or becoming angry, the duo took this as an opportunity to have fun indoors. I loved how they took a negative and made it a positive. I loved how they both contributed ideas to the things to do now and things to do later list.

Ritter and Coco could’ve allowed their feelings to match the weather outside. They could’ve let the darkened skies and pouring rain ruin their day. But they didn’t! The friends’ attitude made them great role models for young readers!

I recommend Ritter and Coco’s Rainy Day to children six years and under. It presents a positive message and encourages children to look on the bright side of life! Plus, the illustrations are fantastic, too!

Dazzling Daisy Playing Outside In The Four Seasons begins with Ollie, a red-headed woodpecker, introducing Daisy to readers. With her parent’s permission, Daisy enjoys spending time outdoors. Rain, snow, cloudy, or full of sunshine, Daisy is ready to enjoy what each season offers. Michael D Bardo’s fun illustrations show Daisy zooming down a hill on her side and chasing after butterflies with a net. He drew Daisy at the beach and the park. These are outdoor activities that a lot of children have partaken in.

Risa Bard wrote a lovely story explaining the four seasons in a fun and exciting way that children will understand and enjoy. Young listeners will learn that spring rains help flowers grow. They also learn a new and creative use of a rain poncho.

Summer means warmer weather and more time spent outdoors: parks, beaches, and water toy fun. This time also means more clothing choices, which Daisy adores! Me too!

Michael D Bardo’s illustrative introduction to fall was very creative. I like how he spelled out “FALL” using leaves. The color choices were spot on too! Through drawings and text, children will learn that fall brings a color change in our leaves and layered clothing. It is also the best time to roll around in leaves and harvest all the big fruits and vegetables. The last part is a fun fact that many children might not know.

Dazzling Daisy Playing Outside In The Four Seasons finishes the story with winter. Michael D Bardo gave us another magnificent introduction to the season, too. Depending on where you live, winter might mean snow and cold temperatures. With snow comes snowpeople, sledding, and snowball fights. The artist drew out each activity beautifully.

No matter the weather or season, Daisy is always ready to make the most of her day with family and friends.

Dazzling Daisy Playing Outside In The Four Seasons is an educational and fun storybook for children aged between 3 – 6 years old. The author wrote the story to inspire children to re-engage with outdoor activities. It will do just that!
