Deadly Homecoming at Rosemont by Connie Chappell (Book Review)

Historian Wrenn Grayson arrives at the Rosemont mansion expecting to receive payment for her services from the mansion’s new owner, Clay Addison. That expectation dies when she and Clay find Trey Rosemont murdered on the foyer floor. Across town, police officers race to Eastwood University. Priceless Egyptian artifacts were stolen from the history department safe. Wrenn’s longtime love, Eastwood professor Gideon Douglas, heads the department. Only recovery of the artifacts will save his career. Life in Havens, Ohio, doesn’t stop for this crime spree. Wrenn works for Mayor K.C. Tallmadge. He wishes Wrenn would stop searching down clues ahead of the police and pacify temperamental playwright Barton Reed. Barton’s play is just days away from opening in the town’s historic Baxter Theater. Amid murder, theft, or curtain calls, Wrenn’s instincts prove sharp. But it’s her stubborn one-woman approach that places her directly in the killer’s path.

The true sign of a great murder mystery novel is the ability of an author to leave you befuddled who was the killer. Connie gave us many suspects, motives, and yet I was not completely sure I knew who was the proper prime suspect. I also  wondered how she was going to tie the murder and theft together & was impressed how thoroughly she linked the two crimes.

She also left us enough breadcrumbs for sequels: What will the future hold for Gideon and Wrenn? Have we seen the last of Elmore, Lucas and Clay? (Surely not) And what about the mysterious Gina Frawley? Will we ever learn what became of her?

So even though the villain (killer) enlightened us about why Trey had to die and details regarding the thievery at Eastwood University, readers will have have enough unanswered questions to have them coming back for another chapter in the life of Wrenn Grayson.

Well done, Connie!

Shadow’s Seduction: Immortals After Dark by Kresley Cole (Book Review)

A NIGHT OF DEBAUCHERY . . .

Prince Mirceo Daciano and his new friend, Caspion the Tracker, comb the streets of Dacia, drunkenly seeking out pleasures of the flesh. In what should have been a typical night, they coax a bevy of nymphs to bed. To impress their females, the demon and the vampire kiss on a dare.

CHANGES THEM FOREVER . . .

Once they finally break away from their soul-searing kiss, they find themselves alone—and shaken. Had they imagined their explosive chemistry? Obstacles—ranging from a death sentence to exile in a war-torn dimension—threaten to destroy their lives . . . and the vulnerable promise in that one kiss.

HOW LONG CAN THEY RESIST THE FIRE THAT BLAZES BETWEEN THEM?

Even if Mirceo accepts Caspion as his fated mate, the seductive vampire still must convince the stubborn demon that their bond is forever. And any royal Dacian union must receive the blessing of King Lothaire, an unpredictable and savage killer. . . .

When you’re writing a book series, the last thing you want is for your readers to grow tiresome of reading the same ideas. It’s a difficult task to continue a storyline without it growing stale, repetitive and losing its appeal.

I’ve been reading KC since the start. For me, her books stand out among the crowd because she pairs the unlikeliest of couples. She doesn’t have couples immediately succumb to their desires and live HEA (happily ever after).

No, she has each pair show their strengths and weaknesses and how they are better-stronger together than apart. And yes, through this there are some bah chicka wah wah moments. Hell, this is a paranormal romance series so bring on the nakedness!

In the instance of Shadow’s Seduction, readers will most definitely see action of the lustful kind. Two men, vamp and demon, will find themselves mated and engaging in some panty-wetting scenes. There’s biting, sucking, domination, and horn licking.  KINKY! 😉

There’s also missions, laughter, heartache, and heart break.

And for the ending….

These two sexy paranormal gents are officially mates but all is not quiet. They are about to go on another mission to save Mina, Mirceo’s sister. (Cliffhanger)

Sweet Cheeks by K. Bromberg (Book Review)

An all new second-chance love story by the New York Times Bestselling author of the beloved Driven series.

It all started with the invitation. To my ex–fiancés wedding.

I should have ignored it.Thrown it away. Set it afire. But I didn’t. I replied.

With a plus one.

Enter Hayes Whitley. Mega-movie star. The man who has captured the hearts of millions. But I gave him mine years ago. He was my first love. He was my everything. Right until he up and left to chase his dreams without so much as a simple goodbye.

When he showed up  out of the blue ten years later, I should have known to steer clear. I should have rejected his offer to take me to my ex’s wedding and told him he was crazy when he suggested we act like a couple to show my ex, it’s true, I could do better than him.

But I didn’t.

And now we’re left wondering if the pieces of the life we once shared still fit together somehow. First loves are hard to forget. The question is, do we want to forget? Or do we risk the chance and see what happens next?

There are few books that I finish and immediately want to start again. This is one of them.

While the beginning started off on a lull, the story really started to pick up steam and get steamy once Hayes and Saylor headed off to paradise island for her ex’s wedding. You’d think a situation where you are venturing to your ex-fiance’s wedding, a place where you’re loathed and mocked at, would be disastrous. However, Hayes made the time there memorable with his adventures, playfulness, and overall sweet nature. Love that was lost was found again.

With that said, his stardom did bring its own share of drama during their weekend away. Love was tested and almost lost again. With a battle on his hands, Hayes brought his A-game for sure via his social media posts, his romantic gifts, and (in the end) proving ACTIONS DO SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS.

Ladies and gents, if you love romantic comedies, this is the perfect book for you. A sweet treat without the unwelcomed, pesky  calories.  😉

Bet Me: A Romantic Comedy by Lila Monroe (Book Review)

What happens when your sex strike goes viral — and suddenly every man in town has their eye on your prize?

All I wanted was little old-fashioned romance. After a parade of Tinder disasters who think chivalry is giving me a pearl necklace on the first date, I made a pledge: until guys step up their game, this girl is off the market.

But one bottle of chardonnay later, and my drunken rant has gone viral. I’m the most famous person NOT having sex since the Jonas Brothers put on their purity rings. A men’s magazine has even put a bounty on my (ahem) maidenhead: fifty Gs to whoever makes me break the drought.

Be careful what you wish for…

Now my office looks like an explosion in a Hallmark factory, I’ve got guys lining up to sweep me off my feet – and the one man I want is most definitely off-limits. Jake Weston is a player through and through. He’s also the only one who sees through the mayhem to the real me, but how can I trust he’s not just out to claim the glory?

And how will I make it through the strike without scratching the itch – especially when that itch looks so damn good out of his suit? The thrill of the chaste has never been so sexy in Lila Monroe’s hilarious, hot new romantic read!

Lila showed men and women at their highest and lowest points. Yes, both genders can and will excel and falter in showing their love, romantic side, and take for granted their lover, boyfriend, girlfriend, husband, or wife.  Whatever label you are using, the end result should be the same. Want to keep a good man or woman? Then, kiss them. Not because you want sex but because you want them to feel loved and appreciated. Don’t allow your significant other do all the cooking, cleaning, chores, and so forth. PUT IN AN EFFORT! Oh and I firmly believe you should do small things every chance you get and not wait until Valentine’s Day.

Lila Monroe made sure readers understood that to keep your sweetums happy, don’t let the romance die because if you do your sex life (relationship) will feel the strain.

Men, you know stroking it gets old. Fake holes aren’t the same as the real deal.

Women, self pleasure isn’t always so fulfilling at the end of the day.

So heed Lila’s words and go give your man or woman some attention. Not because you want sex — expect it. No, give them it because you’re honored and amazed they chose you as their partner.

Bliss: Fae Warriors Book 2 by Gini Rifkin (Book Review)

books_0067

Fae Warrior, Bliss Goodeve, fires up her empath skills to battle the Reptiles invading Earth. But when it comes to her new human partner, Nathaniel Calhoun, Bliss would rather make love than wage war. A man of mystery, she wonders what he’s hiding behind the horn-rimmed glasses and white lab coat.

Nate admits to being a brainiac, at least that’s the persona he shows the outside world. If his boss discovers his troubled past, life could get complicated. The bad boy in Nate wants the beguiling Bliss in the worst way. Yet, the scientist inside him calculates high odds of being left broken-hearted.

After one Reptile goes rogue, it’s up to Bliss, Nate, and an alien critter named Noodge to bring him down. But time is running out, and things are heating up—especially romantically. Bliss is all for living in the moment. But will that be enough for Nate?

He wasn’t a muscled-bound jock who looked like he lived at the gym, but rather he was tall and lean, with the broad shoulders and narrow hips of a Soccer Pro. Or on her planet, a three dimensional air jockey. She could watch those bad boys for hours.

“Does this mean you’ve come to terms regarding where I come from.”

“I’m not sure what you mean by terms. And I really don’t know where you come from other than out there.” He randomly pointed toward the ceiling. “I’ve had sufficient time to digest the concept, of course, but there’s still too much undiscovered data to come to a conclusion. But then we all have secrets.”

“Do we now.” Her favorite superhero, Bruce Wayne, he had secrets. Did Dr. Calhoun have an alter ego? Was there a bat-cave nearby, and someone equivalent to Alfred waiting for him? “Have you been briefed on why I’m here, and what we’re up against.”

“Again yes. And again, still working on it. I try to keep an open mind. After all, I’m a big supporter of SETI. Did a “tour of duty” at the Lick Observatory for my postgraduate work.”

Lick, such a nice four letter word. And in her mind, one that did not conjure telescopes and long boring hours of record keeping with hopes of alien contact.

“So you see,” he continued, leaning against the doorjamb, arms crossed over his broad chest. “I certainly believe in the potential for you to exist.”

When we shop for books, readers scan the covers and seek out what captures our interest the most. When we find something appealing, we read the book summary and decide if it’s worth the cost. For those who wonder if Bliss is worth the price tag attached, my opinion is YES!

Between the cover (courtesy of Debbie Taylor) and the book’s description, I had a feeling Bliss was going to be as memorable as Solace (book 1) and I was correct in my assumption. How can you go wrong with Fae triplets, an ex-army ranger, a cowboy/nerdy scientist, pet Rapran (defined on page 1 and/or see glossary, page 238), and the Reptilian creatures.

No joke, if I saw the transformation from man to reptile, a few things would’ve occurred.

1.) Cue scream 2.) Hello, pee pants. 3.) And timber….. I’ve passed out!

Maybe, I should sign up for martial arts lessons so I can do those fancy moves like Bliss or swing a staff like a ninja master. You know, just in case aliens do exist and they don’t come in peace.

As you can see, I thoroughly enjoyed Bliss and I know you will too. So get it and get Solace — if you haven’t yet!

Side note: Portence is up next and, based off the hospital scene and sneak peek, it’s going to knock my (our) socks off.
