Mr. Blackwell by A.B. Novak (Book Review)

In the deep, bice, swampy waters of Louisiana, novice journalist Vivienne Gray falls head over heels in love with a man she supposed to be interviewing, Jase Blackwell. When Vivienne saves Jase’s life they are pulled into an ancient curse that has plagued the Blackwell family for years. There is a reason behind superstition. It’s because it’s all true. Not believing does not make it go away.

Jase and Vivienne have known each other less than 24 hours, barely spoke to one another, yet they are madly in love. I’m sorry but I don’t buy it.

I didn’t feel any connection to them — together or separately. For the plot of the she-devil, it was something you’d see on an episode of Supernatural. For that, I give the idea a thumbs up. As for the rest of the book, I’m sorry but this book is a miss for me.

Surrender: Coalition Mates 4 by Sarah Marsh (Book Review)

Do you ever wonder if there is other life out there in the Universe? Do you ever fantasize what that life may be like? What they might look like or the planets they might live on? How similar or different they might be from us?

The fourth book in my Coalition Mates series, Surrender, is all about confronting your past and your fears. You’d think that being abducted by aliens would scare any woman, but Sally is prepared to deal with that….it’s when one very sexy alien asks her to give something that she’s vowed never to give again that things get interesting!

Seduce me with words.

Inspire me with passion.

Blind me with longing.

Break me with need.

Bind me with love

Sally Owens was content to spend her life hiding in plain sight, as long as no one got too close or tried to wrestle the reigns away from her that is…

When she goes out for a night on the town to troll for the new Mr. Right Now, getting kidnapped and shipped out into space was NOT what she had in mind. But above all else Sally is a survivor and she soon comes up with a plan to thrive in this new world.

Arkenon Quinn, Courtesan Guild Master on the planet of Sirus, is informed that one of the new human refugees wants to join the Courtesan Guild and he was of course curious. However, when he meets the audacious and beautiful Sally he finds himself signing up to be the one to mentor her against his better judgement. What he could never have anticipated was how quickly this fascinating creature would steal his heart and force him to do something he’s never had to do before- chase a female.

Will Sally’s painful past keep her from finding a future with the man who’s like no other she’s ever met? Or will she have the strength to place her body and soul in Arkenon’s extremely capable hands?

**please note the excerpt below contains graphic content and is for adults only!**

“Are you cold, love?” he said in a low whisper as he ran the back of his fingers lightly up her arm, leaving goose bumps in their wake.

Sally had learned in one of her classes that Sirotians had a type of pheromone control that was frequently used in their seductions. Initially she’d disregarded the possible effects, thinking that she had superior self-control and it wouldn’t affect her, but as Arkenon’s warm, spicy scent became stronger and stronger, all she wanted to do was roll around in it…and on him. So much for her super self-control. Her policy of lying to everyone, including herself, was once again coming back to bite her in the ass.

“Hmm, yeah…cold. I am a little cold now that you mention it,” she answered, unable to stop the shiver that rolled down her body and settled firmly in her now-very-wet pussy.

“You can lie to us both, little one, but I can smell your desire,” he answered with a throaty low laugh. “If I were to run my hand up your thigh right now under this beautiful dress, I know I would find your pretty little pussy dripping with honey just for me.”

Sally’s legs almost buckled as she imagined him doing just that and then pushing her up against the elevator wall and fucking her hard and fast. She knew that when the doors opened and Benic stood there taking in the scene before him that she hadn’t come anywhere close to masking the look of desire on her face. Damn it! She needed to come so badly Sally was starting to shake with the lust that was overtaking her. She assumed that this overwhelming feeling could only mean that Arkenon was cheating and using his Sirotian pheromone mumbo jumbo on her, freaking cheater. But as she turned her head and saw his heavy-lidded look and felt his massive erection straining against her thigh, she thought that perhaps he was turned on enough that he’d forget their terms and just fuck her already. Might as well try, right? After all, he was still a man, and most of the men she had experience with would cut just about any corner when it came to getting a little action. Now it was time to see if she could give his self-control the little shove it needed.

“Why don’t you see for yourself then, sir?” Sally asked in a low, raspy tone as she widened her stance, inviting him to do just that.

She tried not to look away from Arkenon’s face as he slowly backed her out of the elevator and up against a wall in the foyer, but out of the corner of her eye, she could see Benic raise an eyebrow at her taunt, then smile and shake his head as he came closer to them.

Arkenon wasn’t surprised that Sally was trying to tempt him into losing control of the situation. It was a tactical move that he’d assumed she’d mastered throughout her previous relationship history with submissive males. But he couldn’t say that he didn’t have a stronger reaction than he’d expected, making him want to dominate her even more. He had a plan, however, and he was sticking to it, and it started with Sally not keeping any secrets from him.

He pushed her back against the wall and slowly pushed her arms up above her head as he held her wrists in one of his hands, which he could see made her pulse jump.

“Benic, please see that Sally’s arms stay right where they are,” Ark said as the younger man stepped up to place his hand on Sally’s wrists.

Then he took a half step back and smiled as he saw a conflicted set of emotions run over Sally’s face. Her breathing was even more erratic, and she struggled with herself to relax and let Benic bind her. Ark could tell that she’d never let anyone restrict her movement before during foreplay or sex. Her reaction was genuine, and the dominant male in him reveled in the battle she was going through. When eventually he saw her mild panic move from confusion into lust, he was satisfied to continue, and he stepped back up to her, running his hands lightly along the sides of her breasts as he gently kissed her neck.

Sally was so distracted by his mouth that she gasped when his fingers quickly released the back of her dress and the green silk went sliding down her body. He continued to let his fingertips slowly drag up and down the sides of her chest until she was writhing in Benic’s grip.

“Please! Please touch me,” Sally said in a low whisper full of desperation that she hated to admit.

“Touch you where, Sally?” Ark asked her as he still used his fingertips to skim over first her breasts, then down her belly, and along the tops of her thighs.

“You said you wanted to touch my pussy. That’s where I need you,” she said in a whisper that had Benic, who was now standing beside her, groaning softly.

Ark could only frown and shake his head at the younger man, who’d fallen exactly into the obvious trap Sally had set. He had no doubt that if it were just the two of them here that Benic would be enthusiastically pumping balls deep between her thighs right now, giving her anything she wanted. He’d have to get Galen to work on Benic’s self-control a little more firmly. Sally’s eyes were closed, she was biting her lip in frustration, and it was a beautiful thing to behold. Ark slowly trailed his finger down her stomach, and when he got to her pussy, he had to stifle a groan himself when he found her folds soaking wet and swollen. Slipping one finger gently through the slickness, he gave her one light pass, circling her plump clit, and then moved back to leave his hand resting on her mound, which had her squirming in Benic’s grip again.

“Arkenon, please!” she whimpered, trying to arch up into his hand.

“What happened at the end of our meal tonight that upset you, Sally?” Ark asked her as he lightly teased the pad of his finger along her drenched pussy.

When Sally stilled for a moment and frowned, he could tell she was trying to clear her head to figure out what he’d just asked her. When her face evened out again and she bit her lower lip and looked down at him, he knew what she was going to say.

“It was nothing. I’m fine. I just need you to touch me,” Sally answered, rubbing herself against him as much as she could.

“One more chance, love, will you trust me enough to tell me what changed your mood?” he pushed.

He saw the lust slowly back down in her eyes, and the determination and anger rose as she looked back at him.

“I said that I’m fine. I don’t need you to fix me, Guild Master. I only need you to fuck me. Isn’t that what you do?” she snapped back at him.

Arkenon gave her a sad look, which only seemed to fuel her anger further as she looked back at him and raised an eyebrow, daring him to ask her again.

“Wrong answer, love,” Ark sighed as he leaned back and rose to his feet. “Only trust gets rewarded here. Lies will leave you wanting.”

This is the 2nd book I’ve read from the Coalition Mates series and, I must say, Sarah didn’t fail to deliver the heat on this one either. Surrender contains acts of voyeurism, exhibitionism, spanking, anal and bondage play.

Also, she has sex scenes involving m/m, m/w, m/m/w, and m/m/m/w.

Sounds kinky, right?

Just wait until you read the chapter where Sally and Ark attend Galen’s get-together. Trust me folks, this is not a party where you’ll find couples yawning out of boredom. No, what you’ll read will have your temperature skyrocketing, legs clenching, and maybe you might even find yourself panting a little bit. 😉

Apathetic Avengers by J. Rose Alexander and Aurora Zahni (Book Review)

514gu2o3qfl

The only thing Rachel Hingis hated more than swimming was having to play well with others. Edgar Fern, nerd extraordinaire, couldn’t find anyone to play with. Life would have been just fine if they never crossed paths.

Instead, they collided.

The victims of an accidental experiment deep in the corn fields of Iowa, they and four others -Alex, Celeste, Laura and Susan – were changed, and not necessarily for the better. As a mysterious group (insert sinister title here) starts to pick off Red Bug’s students, they have a choice to make: become victims, or become heroes.

The bumpy road to being a masked avenger is fraught with conflict, mystery, explosions– and Freezees.

(request submitted by Aurora Zahni (author) for an honest critique)

When Aurora asked me to read Apathetic Avengers, I counted the days until the superhero book was in my greedy, little hands. Aurora knows I love comic/superheroes so he was confident I would enjoy this book… which I did.

How could you not like these group of super teens. When their tale started in detention class and their personalities began to unfold, I immediately thought of The Breakfast Club; a movie all should watch and often. It’s a true classic!!

As for the powers these teens possessed, we witnessed super-strength, telekinesis, magic wielder and my favorite —- the ability to transmute anything at the basic chemical level. Celeste (Chemical Avenger) turned gas into water and converted a bullet into garlic. Pretty wicked cool, right!!

With all the special skills at the FBI’s disposal, their services were called upon often. They don’t save everyone but, like any true hero, they kept trying.

However, thru all the high-packed action scenes, one question kept nagging at me — a loose end. How did these kids come upon their super abilities? Maybe this question will be answered in the sequel, but as a reader, I was hoping for some nuggets of information.

On a final note, I’m not sure who quoted Speed but I loved it. Best action movie ever!!

Interview with V.A. Dold

       1. Welcome,V.A. Dold. For those who might not be familiar with you, would you be a dear and tell the readers a little about yourself? How did you get your start in the writing business?

(V.A. Dold) Hi. Thank you for having me. I have a marketing degree and was a publicist for authors, which gradually led to writing my own novels.

2. Do you ever suffer from writer’s block? If so, please share how you handle it.

(V.A. Dold) I have had slow downs from burn out but I’ve never had writers block.

3. Contrary to what some people envision about a romance writer’s life, it’s not all glitz and glam. Well not for the majority of us. With that bubble sadly busted, when you’re not writing, how do you spend your time?

(V.A. Dold) Reading, traveling, and hanging out with friends.

4. I know many writers, such as myself, keep their pastime/career a secret. Do those close to you know you write? If so, what are their thoughts?

5. If you could choose one book to go to the big screen,
yours or otherwise,
which book would you choose and whom would you love to see cast in the parts?
(V.A. Dold) Oh Wow.
I’d love to see Cade as a movie.

I think Matt Bomer for Cade

And Melissa McCarthy for Anna

Can Richie save her from the death he foresaw in a premonition? Injuries are mounting and time is running out.

     7. Where can we find your stories, and is there a particular reading order?

(V.A. Dold) Just about any retailer Amazon, B&N, and iBooks

9. Before we conclude this enlightening interview, do you have anything else you’d like to share? The stage is all yours.

(V.A. Dold) After Richie I’ll be writing another Cowboy in my K.I.S.S. Series so stay tuned for that. And Seth is talking loudly in the Le Beau Series. Here is the blurb for his up coming book:

Orphaned at birth, Seth is adopted and raised by the king and queen of the shifters, Isaac and Emma Le Beau.

Circumstances and heart break propel him into the elite band of hunters. Shifters pledged to serve the Goddess as her right hand. Meting out justice to the shifters who gorogue.

Burned out and ready to retire, Seth seeks refuge at the plantation, but Isaac has one last hunt for him to complete.

Unable to deny his father and king, will this assignment be his undoing or his salvation?

Wow, you are one busy lady!! 🙂
Congratulations to all the books you’ve written and the best of luck on the WIP’s.

Author Showcase/Interview and Review of “Dream Walker” – Kimberly Dean

 Welcome, Kimberly Dean!!

1. For those who might not be familiar with you, would you be a dear and tell the
readers a little about yourself? How did you get your start in the writing business?

(Kimberly) Hello, everyone!  I’m an author of romance and erotica and have
been published since 2004.  My start came
a bit differently from other authors’.  I
wrote a manuscript and sent it to Black Lace Books in London.  I heard nothing until one day I opened my
mail and there was a contract!  A week
later, another one showed up for a short story I’d also sent.  To me, that was so much better than a phone
call. It was on paper and real.  I
was suddenly an author.

2.  Do you ever suffer from writer’s block? If so, please share how you handle it.

(Kimberly) First and foremost,
I step away from the computer. If I’ve hit a block, it means my well is
dry.  I’ll go for a walk, listen to
music, or even clean the house.
Sometimes the answer just pops into my head.  Another technique I’ve developed is making
flash cards.  I’ll write highlights for
my plot on each card and organize them.
Knowing that I have an overall roadmap helps me focus on just getting
from Point A to Point B.

3. Contrary to what some people envision about a romance
writer’s life, it’s not all glitz and glam. Well not for the majority of us.
With that bubble sadly busted, when you’re not writing, how do you spend
your time?

(Kimberly) I’m assuming you also mean when I’m not blogging, updating my website, looking
over promo opportunities, plotting, Tweeting, or putting together a
newsletter?  🙂 There’s not much time left, but I spend a lot of time
taking care of my flower gardens.

4. I know many writers, such as myself, keep their
pastime/career a secret. Do those close to you know you write? If so, what are
their thoughts?

(Kimberly) I
am a writer in deep-cover mode.  Only a
handful of people know that I write, and none of them know what I write.  They’re
super-curious, but this is a part of my life that I’ve cordoned off for
me.  I enjoy it, and that’s enough for
me.

5. Will you share with us your all-time favorite authors? If
you’re like me, it’s a long list so give us your top ten.

(Kimberly) Tough call.  I’ll go with Linda Howard, Sandra Brown, Anne
Stuart, Nalini Singh, J.R. Ward, J.K. Rowling, Stieg Larsson, S.E. Hinton, David
Baldacci, Sidney Sheldon

Kam: I <3 Ward, too!!!

6. If you could choose one book to go to the big screen,
yours or otherwise,
which book would you choose and whom would you love to see cast in the parts?

(Kimberly) With superhero movies
dominating the market, I’d have to go with my short story Blade of Moonlight.  It’s a
superhero erotic romance with Luminescence, who gets her power from the moon,
battling and falling in love with Scythe, a bad guy whose favorite weapon is a…
well, you get it.  Off the top of my
head, I see Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds in the starring roles.  Yeah, they’d do nicely.

7. Would you care to tell us what you’re working on now?
That is if it’s not top-secret information. If so, just whisper it in my ear. I
swear it’ll go no further.

(Kimberly) I’m in the middle of two series.  One is my Courting
series, a collection of contemporary erotic romance stories about a high-end
escort service that specializes in love.
The other is my Dream Weavers paranormal romance series about the
Oneiroi, Greek daemons who bestow dreams upon sleeping humans.

8. Where can we find your stories, and is there a particular
reading order?

(Kimberly) My
books are on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, iBooks, and all the other major players’
sites.  I’d say readers should go to my
website and choose by genre.  I write
contemporary romance, paranormal romance, and erotica.  I also split my time pretty evenly between
full-length novels and short stories.  If
someone is new to my work, they can choose a short story to get an idea of how
I write.  That’s what I do when trying
authors who are new to me.

9. Would you please share how your present and future fans
can contact you?

(Kimberly) Sure!  I love hearing from
fans.  Readers can follow me on my
website at http://kimberlydean.com.  I’m
also on Twitter @KDean_writer.

10. Before we conclude this enlightening interview, do you
have anything else you’d like to share? The stage is all yours.

(Kimberly) Thanks for inviting me to your blog, Kam, and thanks to
all the readers who love books.  I’ve
been running into a lot of people these days who are unhappy with their lives
or their work.  Find time for yourselves.  Keep reading.
Do something fun.  Try something
new.  Go for your dreams!

Ladies and Gents, I
hope you enjoyed my interview with Kimberly Dean.
If you have any questions or comments for Kimberly,
by all means, leave her a message below. Thank you in advance for your
visit!

Before you do that though, lets check out Dream Walker!! *big ass smile*

(review request submitted by the author for an honest critique)

As a person who suffers from unpleasant dreams (at times), it’s rather disturbing to think the creatures visiting me are real. That’s reason enough to pray for insomnia.
On the other hand, it’s also rather reassuring to think of having your very own dream guardian. So…I think I will forego the caffeine and just succumb to my body’s need for slumber, restful or not.
For my first introduction into the writing world/mind of Kimberly Dean, I have to say she impressed me. She weaved a rather engaging tale. The plot was thought out beautifully and didn’t really raise any red flags for me. Yeah, I knew who the real guilty party was in the story but the why kept me reading. Plus, the scenes between Shea and Derek were spicy!!
Heck, I adored all the Dream Weavers.
Brilliant read, Kimberly!!
