The Destiny Trilogy by Hywela Lyn (Author Showcase)

Note from Hywela Lyn regarding the ‘The Destiny’ trilogy:

💕 “Although some characters appear in each of the three books, each story is a ‘stand alone’ with no cliffhangers until the next book in the series. The series is Science Fiction/Adventure romance with a fantasy feel (or ‘space opera’, not heavy S.F.)” 💕

Book 1 in the Destiny Trilogy

When Jestine Darnell is rescued from her sabotaged starship by the crew of the Destiny her only objective is to complete her mission and keep her promise to save a world from slavery. Love is the last thing on her mind. However, she has not counted on losing her heart to Kerry Marchant the ship’s second in command, who makes his distrust of her painfully obvious, despite the chemistry between them. The completion of her mission has consequences that neither of them could have foreseen. Enter Dahll Tarron, who becomes involved in a long and dangerous quest to find the Destiny. Fates become intertwined, perils shared, culminating in the realization that sometimes love may be so close that there is a danger it will not be recognized until it is too late…

BELOVED ENEMY – Book 3 in the Destiny Trilogy

Cat Kincaid is obsessed with killing the man she believes is responsible for the torture and death of her sister, but when she eventually catches up with him, survival becomes a greater priority than revenge.

Kerry Marchant, haunted by memories, regret, and self-blame, shields himself from the pain of the past by committing himself totally to the starship, Destiny, of which he is part owner. However, the beautiful, red-haired woman who reminds him of his lost love, and who he suspects is working for a corrupt regime, represents a possible threat not only to the ship, but to his heart.

Marooned on an inhospitable planet, they need to work together to stay alive, fighting not only unknown assailants, but their growing attraction. But how can they learn to trust each other when he has vowed never to get close to a woman again, and she made a solemn pledge to destroy him?

The best science fiction tv shows are the ones that have you eagerly anticipating the following week’s episode or have you zooming through the commercials because wading through 2.5 minutes of ads feels like eternity… pure torture. When a show is that good, you wish for a few more minutes. When a scifi/fantasy book is equally grand, you crave a several more pages.

When I was nearing the end of Beloved Enemy, I kept hoping 20-30 pages would magically appear —  much like things in the book. No such luck though. However, despite my wish not being granted, I was thoroughly satisfied with everything I did read.

Each chapter in Beloved Enemy contained enough scifi, mystery elements/creatures that maintained my attention from the beginning to end.

Most memorable (for me):

  1. The huge ass water and sand creature. They are the things of nightmares and deserve a spot on any otherworldly show! PS. I am rethinking ever washing off in a lake again.
  2. bio-regenerator: This device enhances the body’s natural healing process. Imagine how many lives would be saved, children or an adult’s pain eased in minutes instead of days, and the profound effort it would have in combat missions. Medical marvel!

After dealing with inhospitable creatures, more than one crash, physical altercations with humans, and other WTF moments, I am not surprised Cat and Kerry relationship went from allies for a common cause, to becoming friends, and then progressed to full on love. When you been to hell and back, your troublesome times either break you or make you stronger. Their bond definitely became stronger. It’s what actually saved them. And that’s all you’ll get from me. To find out more…. read the damn book. No seriously, read it. It’s a page-turner, for sure!

REMINDER:  “Although some characters appear in each of the three books, each story is a ‘stand alone’ with no cliffhangers until the next book in the series.” 💕

Hywela Lyn lives in a small village in England, with her long suffering husband Dave,  although her heart remains in her native rural Wales, which inspired so much of her writing.

Although most her writing tends to be futuristic, the worlds she creates are usually untainted by crowded cities and technology, embracing the beauty and wildness of nature.  Her characters often have to fight the elements and the terrain itself.  Her heroes are strong and courageous, but chivalrous and honourable – and of course, handsome and hunky. Her heroines are also strong and courageous, but still retain their femininity! However difficult the journey, love will always win in the end. She is a member of The Romantic Novelists’ Association (UK)  and Chiltern Writers, her local writing group.

A keen animal lover, she has two horses,a ‘feral’ stable cat, and a rescued terrier, who manages to twist her round his little paw.  When she is not writing, she can usually be found enjoying the outdoors with the horses and dog – or just  eating chocolate!

1. Hywela Lyn are her real first two names. She has always been called ‘Lyn’ and decided it was time her Welsh/Celtic name ‘Hywela’ got an airing!
2. She completed the arduous Red Dragon Endurance ride in Wales.
3. She used to enjoy oil painting but gave it up to write.
4. The planet Niflheim, featured in the first two books of the Destiny Trilogy, was inspired by seeing the snow sweeping in like a pink mist across the Welsh mountains just before sunset.
5. The name ‘Hywela’ means ‘Eminent’

~~  Excerpt ~~

“I don’t really have the right to tell you who you can or can’t be with.” She cast her eyes downward. Cameron thought she was trying not to cry.

“You have every right, Jocelyn,” Reed interjected.

“How can you say that?”

The elevator door opened just then, letting on two new passengers. The three of them remained silent the rest of the way down to Jocelyn’s floor. They continued their silence as Cameron and Reed followed Joss as she walked to her cabin. When they reached her door, Cameron asked for her key card and slid it into the slot.

“I didn’t know the two of you were real,” she said when they entered her room. She sat down on the edge of her bed. “I left you three years ago. I certainly don’t expect—”

“Stop it, Joss,” Cameron demanded.

There’s no one else, dollface.”

“What about Taryn?” she asked, looking up at Reed.

Reed quickly explained the circumstances that brought him and Cameron on the cruise. “It’s always been you, Jocelyn.”

“For both of us,” Cameron added.

Jocelyn looked down at her feet.

“I’m not sure she understands yet,” Reed said playfully.

“Hmmm.” Cameron walked over to Joss and sat beside her. She squeaked when he pulled her over his knee. “Maybe we need to show her.”

“What are you doing?” she asked, struggling weakly.

Cameron chuckled. She definitely could have tried harder to free herself from her current position, he thought. “Something I’ve wanted to do for a very long time.” He hiked up her dress, revealing pink cotton boy shorts, and rubbed her ass in a slow sensuous circle.

Reed sat next to him on the bed to enjoy the view, no doubt. Cameron slowly pulled her panties down, leaving them wrapped around the lower part of her thighs, exposing her to their gaze. Reed reached out to stroke the globes of her beautiful round and shapely ass. He then slid his finger slowly up and down her slit.

“I think she’s turned on,” he said, his voice gravelly. “So pretty.”

Cameron tilted his head to the side to get a better view. She’s not the only one turned on.

Jocelyn’s responsive moan was low and breathy, and her body protested when Reed removed his finger. He gave Cameron a slight nod, after which a sharp slap resonated in the room, immediately followed by a surprised squeak. Cameron rubbed the stinging area, generating another moan from Joss.

“You’re ours, Joss”—slap—“and we are all yours. No one else’s, baby.” After another slap, another moan, and another gentle rub, he asked, “Do you understand?” He slapped her ass again when she didn’t respond. “I”—smack—“Asked”—smack—“You”—smack—“A”—smack—“Question”—smack.

“Yes! Yes!” she panted. “Yours.”

“Good girl.”

This time Cameron nodded at Reed, who immediately slipped first one, then two fingers inside Jocelyn’s wet channel. She bowed her head and fisted the sheets in front of her as Reed pumped his fingers in and out of her, while Cameron rubbed her ass in slow, sensual circles. She looked so fucking sexy, Cameron thought, splayed out like she was over his knees, panting, moaning, whimpering. His cock was an iron rod, painfully straining against the zipper of his jeans and protesting that he would not be able to sink into her lush body tonight. Tonight, it would have to be about her pleasure and he and Reed enjoying the act of giving it to her. The image of her glorious ass in the air, marked with his handprints, legs spread apart, beautiful, wet, pink pussy on display, would both torment and excite him until he could finally claim her.

Jocelyn emitted a low throaty sound followed by a loud cry. Her body arched, her knuckles whitened as she fisted the sheets tighter, and then her hips jerked repeatedly at what must have been a very powerful orgasm.

Cameron gently maneuvered her into a sitting position on his lap and wiped away her hair from her damp forehead. She was still shaking in his arms. Reed, who remained in the same spot on the bed next to Cameron, rubbed Jocelyn’s back in circles until her body calmed and her heavy breaths became steady.

“I wish I would have seen your face when you came, Joss,” Cameron said, his own breathing labored. He was sure she could feel his hardness underneath her. “You look so beautiful all flushed and sated like you are.”

She smiled shyly up at him. “I had some help.” She reached back to give Reed a soft caress. “From two very talented men.”

“Talented, huh?” Cameron chuckled. “This was just a tease, baby. I’ll show you talented.”

(review request submitted by the author for an honest critique)

Once upon a time, Paul Walker (actor) spoke these words… “I used to believe in one true soul mate, but not anymore. I believe you can have a few.” In Jocelyn’s case, she was lucky to have found two. However, whereas most other people discover their love(s) through casual dating, school, work, or an online dating site, Joss’ soul mates were found in the moments she was traversing through dreamland.

She stumbled up Cameron, then Reed. A connection/friendship was established when they were merely teenagers. A bond that kept bringing them back together through the years. Location for the meet wasn’t ideal, the idea of dream-walking seemed far-fetch, but you can’t deny these three were absolutely fated to meet.

Cameron, the man with the psychic touch, could see events unfold — some clear as day, some not. He saw the accident which took Joss’ mom away but was unable to prevent it. That powerless feeling was a undoubtedly heavy weight to bear. His “gift” made him make a tough choice later on in the story (towards end of the book). In the end, everything worked out for the best because we all want that HEA. Of course, not all of us are ending the day with two men warming our beds…..

Oh, the wonderful joys of books. It can take you places you’ve never been before. With Elena, she took us to a in-between state where dreams are real and the possibilities are endless.

Speaking us endless possibilities: When the trio conjured up the food and wine, was it calorie free? I sure hope so. I know the men were real, Joss was real, but calories…… No, in my mind, that was the only fake part of their time together.

Their love might’ve started out in another plane, but it didn’t make their feelings any less real. They actually proved love truly knows no bounds.

(review request submitted by the author for an honest critique)

For those who’ve went to college or are attending it now, you know those years are about discovering yourself, pursing your dream job or figuring out what your career should be, and sometimes stumbling upon the love of your life.

For Jasmine and Benson, they are in their senior year of college and also building a life together. They might not have been each other’s firsts but I have the feeling they’ll be each other’s lasts. In the short months they have been together, each has shown their true feelings, character, and all I see is two sensational, loving, giving people who deserve each other. Their backgrounds, upbringings might not be similar (poor woman, rich man) but their souls are undeniably alike…… pure and good.

And even though Tyler (psycho/jealous guy) and Deborah (Benson’s mom) tried to tear them apart, nothing was too difficult to overcome as long as they had one another. (FYI: Still surprised no one saw the warning signs Tyler was a few apples short of a full basket. He hid his evilness rather well but the “best” psychos usually do.)

One last thing, Cassandra Riley wrote plenty of sweet and steamy love scenes. Various locations, some full of heat, some on the gentler side but all portrayed their love beautifully. However, the scene that stood out for me was the one where Benson wanted to sleep with Jasmine. No sex — just wanted to sleep next to her and wake up with her. That’s love, folks, and their story is just beginning.

Author Showcase / Interview / Review – Theresa Braun (Dead over Heels)

Welcome, Theresa Braun!

  1.  For those who might not be familiar with you, would you be a dear and tell the readers a little about yourself? How did you get your start in the writing business?

(Theresa) I’m a writer of horror, and sometimes romance. I joke that there is a common thread between the two, since they both deal with high levels of extreme emotion—fear and love. And, with rejection and betrayal being linked to romance, it can easily become horrific. How did I start writing? I’ve always enjoyed being creative. When I was younger, I was more of an artist, painting and drawing (which I still do on occasion). Then at some point I shifted into creating stories. It became a great way to escape. And, there’s a thrill in creating an entire world with words.

  1. Do you ever suffer from writer’s block? If so, please share how you handle it.

(Theresa) I’ve been a victim of writer’s block. One year it was so bad that a friend of mine got me a book on how to overcome it. She meant well, but it kind of made me feel worse. I say this jokingly, of course. But I’ve learned to cope with it much better. I’ve come to understand that sometimes a particular story is not working or coming along at the moment and it needs to sit. That’s when starting a different story comes in. By doing that, you aren’t beating your head against the wall and forcing something that isn’t coming along. If that doesn’t work, I use the time to network or market some of my published books. However, one of the biggest things that I would encourage writers to do is to connect with other writers. Having someone to talk to about “author problems” is really helpful. I’ve gotten out of several ruts that way, and I’d like to think I’ve pulled a few friends out of theirs, too.

  1. Contrary to what some people envision about a romance writer’s life, it’s not all glitz and glam. Well not for the majority of us. With that bubble sadly busted, when you’re not writing, how do you spend your time?

(Theresa) I lead a fairly ordinary life. By day, I teach high school English. By night and weekend, I’m either writing or spending time with family and friends. I really enjoy going to the movies, concerts, comedy shows, or festivals. Another thing that I make sure to do is read as much as I can. I think it was Stephen King who said if you don’t have time to read, you can’t be a writer, since they go hand and hand.

  1. I know many writers, such as myself, keep their pastime/career a secret. Do those close to you know you write? If so, what are their thoughts?

(Theresa) Everyone in my life knows I write. There are times I wonder if I should have come up with a pen name so I can hide a bit when I want, especially if I’m tackling a tough subject. But, in the end, I’m glad I’m out of the closet, so to speak. My mom has read all my stories so far, which is so nice. And, my dad, who hates to read fiction (he only reads non-fiction) has attempted to read a few of my stories. They’re both somewhat conservative, so it makes me feel good that they support me. A couple of my friends have read my work, but some don’t like horror. I get that and am totally okay with it. As much as I am grateful to have the support, I’d still be writing if I didn’t. I suppose it would be tougher, though.

  1. Will you share with us your all-time favorite authors? If you’re like me, it’s a long list so give us your top ten.

(Theresa) That’s a difficult task but here goes (and this is not in order of importance): Bram Stoker, Mary Shelly, Stephen King, Kurt Vonnegut, George Orwell, Aldous Huxley, Margaret Atwood, Robert Louis Stevenson, Edgar Allan Poe, and Shakespeare. (F. Scott Fitzgerald and Franz Kafka, if I could squeeze in 2 more).

  1. If you could choose one book to go to the big screen, yours or otherwise, which book would you choose and whom would you love to see cast in the parts?

(Theresa) I’d like to see more of Edgar Allan Poe’s stories turned into modern movies. Some of the older ones really stray from the plot and add random characters. “The Fall of the House of Usher” would be a great movie if it were done right.

I would cast Michael Fassbender as the narrator. Roderick Usher would be played by Tom Hiddleston.

Madeline Usher is a difficult one to cast, but I think I would go with…..

Mena Suvari

or Chloe Grace Moretz.

There would be Oscar buzz for this flick, I can just see it.

  1. Would you care to tell us what you’re working on now? That is if it’s not top-secret information. If so, just whisper it in my ear. I swear it’ll go no further.

(Theresa) I have a few irons in the fire. One is a tale about a group of satanic teenagers. I joke that I have drawn on my experience as a high school teacher for it. Another is about a therapist who travels through a mirror. What happens on the other side and what she has to do to deal with it are the crux of the story. And, I have my eye on an anthology that is looking for tragic or dark love gone wrong. That’s right up my alley, so I’m cooking up a plot and some characters as we speak.

Kam: Your story ideas sound like they will be interesting reads. Can’t wait to see the complete works!!

  1. Where can we find your stories, and is there a particular reading order?

(Theresa) You can find me on almost all sites where ebooks are sold. I usually direct people to Amazon, but that’s just my preference. My website is also a good place to find me. It’s currently getting a makeover and there will be more and more things on there as it evolves. There’s no reading order, since all of my stories are stand alones, at least for the time being.

  1. Would you please share how your present and future fans can contact you?

(Theresa)

Facebook: www.facebook.com/groomanddoom

Website: www.theresabraun.com

  1. Before we conclude this enlightening interview, do you have anything else you’d like to share? The stage is all yours.

(Theresa) I’d just like to thank you for this opportunity to share my thoughts on writing. And, I’d like to thank anyone who has or will take the time to read my work. There are so many amazing writers and stories out there, so it makes me happy when people stumble upon mine and enjoy them.

~~ Closing remarks ~~

Ladies and gents, I want to thank you for taking time out of your busy schedules to visit us. I had a great time learning more about Theresa Braun and I’m sure you did as well. Before you run back off to the real world, please take a moment to step into the supernatural world created by Theresa. Below, I’ve shared a spooktacular tale, Dead over Heels, and my thoughts on it.

Enjoy and thanks!

Short story: 38 pages

Veronica’s first date with Sebastian not only stirs up a powerful attraction, but also a series of supernatural events that will tear them apart.

After countless hours of dead end online dating, Veronica meets up with Sebastian at a reportedly haunted restaurant, since he knows she has a fascination with the paranormal. While enjoying their meals and each other’s company, they share a shocking supernatural experience. Their romantic connection is overshadowed by the ghosts of their own pasts that threaten to destroy their budding relationship. Veronica decides she must return to the restaurant to face her past and dig up more answers. Unfortunately, she realizes she must go back, this time with a reluctant Sebastian. In the end, they join forces against the evil that stands between them, but will they make it out alive?

(review request submitted by the author for an honest critique)

Whether I am reading a mystery, science fiction, supernatural, or romance novel/novella, I look for several items to gauge my score on. Does it have a nice opening segment? Does it have an interesting plot? Does it have engaging characters, and do I feel the chemistry between said characters? Does it have an end that leaves me eager for a sequel or to read the story over again and again and again?

I can safely say I answered yes to all the questions above.

As a fan of science fiction/paranormal shows such as Twilight Zone and Supernatural, I love storylines that tap into the unknown. In Dead over Heels, we watch as the past meets the present in the forms of spirits reliving traumatic moments, aka their deaths by the same murderer.

As you can imagine, the living playing unwilling bystanders to this horrific scene is one thing — the victims being someone near and dear to your heart is another matter entirely. It amplifies the experience 1000%.

Now I mentioned the importance of a solid ending. For fans of the ghosts/spirits, I assure you this ending was perfection. . It wasn’t your typical ending to a ghostly tale, and I like my plot twists.

Well done, Theresa. You wrote a spooktacular short story!

Excerpt

“Before we go, there is something I have been meaning to do for quite a long time, Corrine.”

“Oh?”

Braxas let go of her hand as well, and she looked from one to other with suspicion.

“I think you need to be reassured that you belong to Braxas and me. That we are both fully committed to you.”

“I believe you,” she threw in quickly. Braxas assumed that she did not need her seer abilities to know where this was heading.

Gabe however, continued as if she hadn’t spoken. He held up his right hand in a fist, his knuckles facing forward and popped his forefinger up. “You ran from us.” Next up came his middle finger. “You didn’t tell us where you were going.” His ring finger followed. “You lied.” Then his pinky. “You’re very haughty.” And finally his thumb. “You are way too stubborn for your own good.” He tilted his now open and raised palm to the right, poised to strike a particularly beautiful derriere.

“Anything else?” she responded in exactly the haughty manner that Gabe’s fourth finger had coincided with.

Gabe smiled slyly. “That’s reason enough for now.” He lowered his hand and placed it on his knee. “Hike up your dress and come lie across my knees.”

Corrine leaped to her feet. “So you can spank me like some wayward child? I think not.”

“No, so I can spank you like a lover spanks his woman when she aggravates the hell out of him.”

Corrine’s mouth opened on a silent O, and a blush swept over her face and neck. Braxas inhaled her sweet scent of arousal and felt the pressure of his cock straining against the zipper of his jeans. Gods, he wanted to be inside of her. “That shade of rose looks lovely on your cheeks.”

Corrine’s head whipped in his direction. “You’re just going to let him do this to me?”

Braxas chuckled. “Let him? Hell, I encourage him. I have no doubt that all three of us are going to enjoy it immensely.” He smiled widely at her. “Especially if that lovely rose color blooms across your ass as well.”

She opened her mouth as if she had something to say, but shut it just as quickly. She took one step towards Gabe and paused, looking from one to the other. Braxas knew she was excited by the prospect of being spanked by Gabe while he watched, but he also sensed her trepidation. In the end, fear won out, and their little doe, temporarily mesmerized by headlights, broke her own spell and bolted out the door.

Gabe stared at the empty doorway as he spoke. “Tell me something, Braxas. Do cougars like the chase as much as wolves do?”

Braxas smiled widely again, but more for himself since Gabe still stared straight ahead. “Indeed we do.”

(review request submitted by the author for an honest critique)

It’s a difficult task writing a story that has a solid plot, good foundation for the next installment in a series, and has the right amount of heat without scenes coming across as sexually repetitive. When an author (or authors, in this case) orchestrate a ménage scene, they attempt to deliver moments where each orgasmic driven word leaves you fulfilled as much as the last. No author wants their vision to be viewed as stale or repetitive. I must say, Sarah/Elena/Maia stories would NEVER be construed as dull or boring.

These three gals have once again shown us their imagination has no bounds when it comes to delivering a solid storyline and inventiveness between multiple partners. They managed to convey pain (physical and psychological), weaved in a bit of Fae history, and also introduced new characters when one of their own was taken, harmed, and used as a pawn in war.

As much I loved Braxas/Gabe/Corrine’s story, I think I’m going to heart Alak/Aeron/Katrina’s tale even more. She’s fierce, ballsy, a true warrior — golden skinned beauty. Alak is a smart-ass, cocky male while Aeron is the calmer, more charming sibling. Both are sexy as hell with long, black braided hair. Oh and they have tattoos. <Swooning>

Ladies, get to writing because their story is sure to be a magical hit!
