Born of Fury by Sherrilyn Kenyon (Book Review)

Original Publication Date: July 01, 2014
Setting: Ichidian Universe

The war is on…

Counted among the fiercest Andarion warriors ever born, Hauk is one of the five founding members of the Sentella- an organization that has declared war on the League that rules the Ichidian universe with an iron fist and terrifies it with an army of well-trained assassins. Hauk’s enemies are legion, but he fears nothing and no one. He will do whatever it takes to survive and protect his Sentella brethren.
Sumi Antaxas is one of the best assassins the League has ever trained. In her world, failure is not an option and she has never met a target she couldn’t execute. So when she’s assigned Hauk, she believes it’ll be a quick and easy mission.
But nothing is ever as simple as it seems, and Hauk is far better…

Sherrilyn, once again, had me hating some characters and loving others. And if you read the book yet, you know Dariana is a real piece of work. She’s a cold-hearted bitch and a lousy mother. If you haven’t read the latest installment yet, believe me… you’ll be agreeing with my assessment of her for sure once you do. Bank on it!

Hauk -no male deserved love and affection more than him. I liked him before. Now, I love him. His loyalty to his friends and family is admirable.
Oh, let me mention how sweet him and little Kalea were together. She was just a doll and I cracked up during their interactions.
(No spoilers who she is to him)

Darice and Hauk – Despite how much grief and snide comments Darice threw his way, he always embraced the young male. Darice standing up for Hauk (finally) was one of my favorite scenes. He sure grew up in this book and became the man I knew he could be. Way to go, Darice!

Sumi – She’s a woman not to trifle with. Basically, the perfect woman for Hauk!

For the rest of Hauk”s family, you can’t go wrong with entertainment when Syn, Maris, Darling, Nyk, and Hauk get together. So many comedic moments! Love it and I loved this book!

Fireborn by Keri Arthur (Book Review)

Release date July 1 2014
From New York Times bestselling author Keri Arthur comes a brand new series featuring heroine Emberly Pearson—a phoenix capable of taking on human form, and cursed with the ability to foresee death…

Emberly has spent a good number of her many lives trying to save humans. So when her prophetic dreams reveal the death of Sam, a man she once loved, she does everything in her power to prevent that from happening. But in saving his life, she gets more than she bargained for.

Sam is working undercover for the Paranormal Investigations Team, and those who are trying to murder him are actually humans infected by a plague-like virus, the Crimson Death—a by-product of a failed government experiment that attempted to identify the enzymes that make vampires immortal. Now, all those infected must be eliminated.

But when Emberly’s boss is murdered and his irreplaceable research stolen, she needs to find the guilty party before she goes down in flames…

I’ve read many sci-fi/fantasy/supernatural books in my time. Many (but not all) seem to have a recurring theme when it’s the first book in the series. The author overloads the reader with the history of the characters and you almost need a notepad/pen with a diagram to remember it all.

I’m glad Keri didn’t overwhelm us with too much information. She slowly introduced us to the Red cloaks, the major players attempting to stop them, and left enough mystery behind where the reader will want to come back for seconds.

Good job, Keri. I look forward to the next book in this series.

Review of “Hidden Prey” – Cheyenne McCray

HIDDEN PREY
New York Times best selling author Cheyenne McCray returns to steamy romantic suspense with a high-octane thriller about a woman running from a Mexican cartel and the man determined to protect her.

Danger
Tori Cox, a talented and sought after musician, heads back to her roots in a small southwest town in Arizona as she flees an abusive relationship. When she arrives in Bisbee, she finds herself in the wrong place at the wrong time—and witnesses the execution of a Federal agent by none other than the son of El Demonio, the head of the Jimenez Cartel. Tori and everyone she loves is now in danger as the cartel comes after her before she can testify.

Desire
Landon Walker, a special agent with the Department of Homeland Security, rescues Tori when he sees the beautiful woman running from members of one of the most ruthless cartels in the world. He sets out to protect her, but soon protecting her isn’t enough. The fire between them makes him want her in a way that he’s never wanted another woman, despite his wounded heart.

Death
Diego Montego Jimenez will do everything in his power to kill the young American woman who threatens his business and family. No one lives to testify against the Jimenez Cartel. Landon isn’t about to let the cartel get hold of Tori. He’ll go to the ends of the earth and back to protect her—and show her he’s never letting her go.

Quick Thoughts

Cheyenne is back with a new series and I rather enjoyed it. IMO, it would make a perfect story arc for an episode of Breaking Bad, which I am currently engrossed in. Yeah, I know I’m way behind on the times with this show but I’m watching it now so …… 🙂

And now back to the book…..

If you like sexy cops, women who aren’t weak, and action, then you will enjoy this book. It is the perfect start to her new series. Can’t wait for book 2.

Beverly Hills Demon Slayer by Angie Fox (Book Review)

51hp9cngc1l-_sx322_bo1204203200_
All that glitters is not gold…

Demon slayer Lizzie Brown isn’t exactly a diamonds and champagne type of girl. But when an ancient cult becomes the “in” thing in Beverly Hills, she realizes there’s more to it than youth potions, parties, and priceless Egyptian artifacts. There’s a demon involved…and Lizzie’s not on the guest list.

She goes in undercover, along with her sexy Greek shape-shifter husband, her biker witch buddies, and a dog that is way too fond of free appetizers and the red carpet lifestyle. Between dodging detection and uncovering ancient secrets, Lizzie has her hands full. And when the demon manages to hook his claws into Lizzie’s eternal soul, she’s afraid she may be stepping out for her final event.

This series happens to be one of my favorite ones to follow. I adore the biker chicks and Pirate (the pooch). He reminds so much of Scrappy Doo and who doesn’t like the sarcastic, ball of energy. He even has his “Let me at them” attitude.

And Dimitri…. He’s just so Mmmmmmm!

If you haven’t read the Slayer books yet, I highly recommend you do. The pages seem to fly by in a flash and even though I hate to see the story end, I’m thankful her stories don’t drag.

The Troublemaker Next Door by Marie Harte (Book Review)

When Flynn McCauley meets Maddie Gardner, sparks fly. She hates men. He’s not into relationships. She lost her job. He fixed her sink—but that’s not all he wants to fix. When a ride home turns into a lot more, Maddie and Flynn decide to keep things strictly casual. Strictly sexual. They won’t date. And they end up not dating…a lot. But soon Flynn wants more from the wary redhead. If he can just keep her distracted long enough to burrow under her skin, Flynn might convince Maddie they have a shot at real happiness. That’s if Maddie can overcome her past to take a chance on the future.

This is my first time reading anything by Marie and I can say (without any doubts) I LOVE HER WRITING SKILLS!

I laughed my tush off watching the McCauley brothers interact. And little Colin, he was just way too cute for words. I can’t wait for Karma to catch up to Brody for creating a devious little con man. When he has kids of his own, the uncles are sure to make sure his kids give daddy hell. Payback is a bitch, Brody!

HA!

As for Flynn and Maddie — Dayum! For a couple who aren’t technically a couple, they sure sizzled every time they got near other. The sex scenes were deliciously HAWT – bondage, BJ’s in vehicles, sex in back room of a club, phone sex, and the constant teasing of each other.

I can’t say how much I loved book one in the series. Yes, I already preordered book 2-4. *big smile*
