Happy Release Day, CJ Matthew!!!

Kari Phillips has sworn off alpha men, thanks to a childhood spent raising four sisters while her dad served in the air force and her mom was unable to cope with his deployments. Vowing never to follow in her mom’s footsteps, Kari has become a driven, successful attorney. On her way to Tokyo to rescue her best friend’s wedding, she meets a cocky F-15 pilot headed to the same ceremony. When he finagles a seat next to her on the flight, she vows if he gives her any grief, she’ll shove him out of the emergency exit without a parachute.

Major Steve Shorner, a patriotic warrior fulfilling his lifelong dream as a fighter pilot, is finding it tough to live down a couple of practical jokes. Before he heads to Tokyo to be his buddy’s best man, Steve’s commander assigns him to a no-win project in Japan, and links the outcome to Steve’s tryout for the Thunderbirds, the AF’s elite demo team. But after a chance meeting with a beautiful redhead at the airport, Steve acquires a new goal—convince the sexy, workaholic lawyer to bend her rule against military men.

As the airport security line slowed, Kari’s cell phone rang somewhere deep in an out-of-reach pocket. The tote bag shoulder strap took another dive and abruptly stopped its fall with a heavy jolt on her elbow. What was it with this bag? Now, with every movement, the bulky monster bumped into her knee.

Kari stopped. Bending over to dig for her phone, she followed the “New York, New York” ringtone. “Damn it,” she whispered.

“Need some help?” A deep voice rumbled from somewhere close. She glanced up. Way up. And stared. The man…gorgeous. A magazine model? Maybe not with that blond hair cut extremely short. Uh-oh. Possibly the first strike against him. He looked military.

As an air force brat, she knew how frequently men with domineering and controlling traits joined the service. Her own mother had been hard-pressed to cope with her dad, the Colonel’s, overpowering personality. Since Kari was determined not to follow in Mom’s footsteps, she simply avoided men in uniform.

Still, she had to admire the man’s strong chin and classically handsome features. Her gaze slid down to broad shoulders, trim waist, then stalled. Darted back up. Whoa, his eyes were the exact color of warm chocolate.

Wait…here was half a strike. His eyes were framed by impossibly long lashes. Unfair, wasted on a male.

He met her gaze, smiled, and said, “Could I help with the bag while you find your phone?”

Her heart cart-wheeled. As his smile grew, a deep dimple appeared in each cheek, punctuating his full lips. Wow, a tall, helpful man with sexy dimples. Her phone quit ringing. Kari felt the telltale warmth of a blush spread across her neck and up her face.

Locating her cell, she shook her head at her tall neighbor. “Thanks. I’ve got it now.” Seeing the picture of her baby sister, Deborah, on the screen, Kari punched Recall.

Since the hunk behind her only scored one and a half strikes, she surreptitiously completed her inventory and reached her verdict: the man was a total hottie. But what about the drastic buzz cut? If it wasn’t military, he might be law enforcement. Not worth the risk.

Kari and I had one thing in common, we are both former Air Force brats. I remember some fun times on the military bases when I was a kid. Memories I will always cherish. As I was reading “A Major Seduction”, I began to think back on those days and found myself smiling. Thank you for that, CJ.

Also like Kari, we both had a father who was a very dominant man. The Colonel liked things his way, a bit controlling, and I could relate. After dealing with the Colonel and her ex-husband commanding ways, she became quite touchy and would turn to anger rather swiftly. That’s were we part ways. I don’t react that way and I assumed Kari, as a lawyer, would be better at schooling her reactions/emotions. As a top notch lawyer, going for partner, she should be able to handle uncomfortable situations better. She reacted harshly on more than one occasion when it came to Steve. She misread his actions/intentions on more than one occasion and overreacted accordingly. I’m thinking she might benefit from a bit of therapy because I don’t see this issue resolving without some sort of assistance.

Now lets discuss Steve….. He had a marvelous sense of humor. Him reciting the preflight checklist so he could “last longer” was very humorous. Whatever works to hold off the BIG O! He also had a sweet romantic side which he demonstrated on many occasions. (Chapter 41 and Chapter 43, for sure)

I can’t end this review without touching on the reason why their path’s crossed in the first place –  the wedding. Between the bachelorette dinner/party, florist, baker, caterer, chapel coordinator, musician , rehearsal dinner, and fixing scheduling conflicts, I can’t believe anyone had time to shag. But if anyone needed and deserved coitus it was these two. He was on a foreign base dealing with issues to reinforce his role as a prime candidate for the Thunderbirds. And Kari, she was juggling wedding duties, trying to make partner, and having to deal with Momzilla and the groom’s vile older sister. Now, Momzilla did find tolerable thanks to General Robert Harlson. He charmed the pants off her and the wedding party couldn’t have been happier.

As for Kari and Steve, they did get their happily ever after but it required compromises, which any great relationship will have many of. And, to avoid spoilers, I won’t tell you what those compromises were. Read the book and find out for yourself. 🙂

Daughter of the Dirt Dweller’s ruler; Tessla Reto attempts to escape the Underworld after the mysterious disappearance of her best friend. She knows her untimely death is also near if her father, Landen Reto discovers her part in forming the rebels to fight against him. The two men sent to help her get away are killed and she’s rescued by a handsome stranger…or is she?

Faerydae returns to Earth in search of an inner peace his soul can’t find after the death of his friend Chandra Lamar. Instead, he finds himself in an unplanned rescue of a woman that stirs everything he’s fought a lifetime to deny. Can Faerydae stay focused on his goal to expose his past and true Fae bloodline, or will destiny play her hand?

Shomar’s uncomplicated world is tossed asunder when his best friend, Faerydae, shows up with a stray puppy and a woman who steals the heart of his soul the moment he looks at her. Only to discover Faerydae and the woman claim they can’t stand each other, yet his intuition tells him otherwise. Will Shomar be able to win the woman of his dreams or will Faerydae always have her heart?

Will Tessla find her freedom? Will Faerydae keep his, or will Shomar succeed in his plan to expose them to their hidden ecstasy?

“Exposed Ecstasy”: Unlike “Sinful Surrender” (book 1) and “Phantom Desire “(book 2), I didn’t completely fall in love with the heroes and heroine. Faerydae was an ass for the majority of the story. He did have moments where he showed his sweet and loving side such as when he gave Tessla the pup, their time in Elfhame, and the final chapters. However, for the most part, he played games with her heart, spoke with little patience, and became a person I dreaded entering a conversation/room.

Tessla didn’t come off as a strong woman who had the backbone to stand up against her father, Reto. Her begging Faerydae to allow her to be a part of his life in some way wasn’t flattering. Especially when he kept pushing her away. I know you can’t give up on love but I just didn’t understand her behavior, especially since she hardly knows him.

Out of the three of them, Shomar was the only likable character. He was sweet, charming, romantic and wore his heart on his sleeve. His begging forTessla not to leave him seemed too much since, again, he barely knew her. In fact, he wanted to marry her after knowing her 24 hours.

But, that’s how the men roll in this series. They go from 0 to 60 in less than 2 seconds. For me, I wish the men, in general,  would start slowing down.

As for Faerydae, I wanted him to stop doing the “We can’t.” — “I can’t.” — “I want you.” — “We are a mistake.” — bullshit game sooner. It got old fast, like his character.

“Intimate Betrayal”: Where I thought “Exposed Ecstasy” was lacking in character development and plot formation, “Intimate Betrayal” delivered a one-two punch of non-stop action and adventure.

In “Intimate Betrayal”, we shall meet a variety of different people: reluctant assassins, Old World Mole, Star Rider, badass women, and the spawn of Satan (not literally).

This cast and their interactions made time fly by for me. I was so engrossed in the pages I didn’t realize I had missed a meal and that’s a hard feat for a writer to accomplish because this chick loves her food. 🙂

Know what else I liked? Houston didn’t have her women lacking in curves or have them weak/dependent on men. Elaine and Makayla don’t need a man to protect them because they proved they can handle their own shit. This I loved!!!

What else I loved? The very last sentence of the book. Reading it, you just know shit is about to get real in book 5 (title and release date unknown).

With all the love I had for “Intimate Betrayal”, I deducted a heart because of a one major ugh moment. Jaden was hell-bent on not sharing Kindise. All the way up to chapter 15, he held firm to this notion — one man, one woman. After Kindise told him it’s all or nothing, he came on board with it. Then, they had a threesome. I’m not buying this total turnaround and I don’t believe neither man will succumb to the green-eyed monster in the future.

Out with a Bang: Romance on the Go by Sarah Marsh (Book Review)

Length: 51 pages – MMF

When Laura Harper walked into her interview for Dover and Harding Engineering, she never could have imagined how rewarding it could be to find a place for herself where her organizational skills were relied upon and needed so badly. Sure it didn’t hurt that the two men who had hired her were straight out of her wildest fantasies, but had she let her feelings go too far? Was it just wishful thinking that they might want her in return?

Greyson Harding and Barrett Dover knew the moment Laura walked into their office that they’d finally found the woman they wanted to share their lives with. So they began by hiring the sweet, shy woman and hoped they could convince her that their interest was more than a passing attraction. But after five years they’ve finally run out of time and if they aren’t careful, they could lose Laura for good.

Adult Content

Grey loved the way Laura’s eyes dilated even further at his whispered words, and when she licked her lips, he couldn’t resist any longer. He closed the distance between their mouths and kissed her finally. When her lips opened on a gasp, he pushed forward and took her mouth like he’d been imagining for all these years.

It was sensual, and deep, filled with all the longing he’d been holding back. She tasted just as good as he knew she would have, like strawberries and the wine she’d had with dinner. He pulled back when Barrett let out a groan, knowing that he had to share the bounty of her soft mouth, and when he did, she moaned and tried to follow his retreat. Grey liked that. His cock was already hard enough to hurt, and the little noises of surrender coming from those sweet lips of hers made him ache even more to slide inside of her.

When Barrett leaned forward and took Laura’s mouth in a desperate kiss, Grey moved his attention to the delectable body that he’d been imagining for what felt like eternity. Laura kept herself covered up, but in those sexy skirts, Grey imagining bending her over on just about every surface in the office. Truth be told, it was significantly cutting into his productivity. He thought about fucking her three quarters of the day, and knew that Barrett did the same. Ironically, without her here to keep things running smoothly, their business would have suffered.

He ran his shaking hands down her sides, his thumbs barely grazing the hard nipples he could see through her dress. The dress he had bought her. He really liked the thought that she was wearing what he had chosen for her. He wondered though, what she’d picked to wear underneath it, and as he found the side zipper and slowly lowered it, his pulse was racing at the thought of all that creamy white skin that was now theirs for the taking. When he reached up and undid the clasp of the halter top around her neck, the dress slowly cascaded down her curvy body, revealing bright, red lace that made both men groan in appreciation.

“You’ve been hiding this sexy body from us for too long, baby,” Barrett said with a growl. “I want to touch it all. Grey, let’s see what’s ours.”

(review request submitted by the author for an honest critique)

So these two dominant males wait 5 years for Laura to make the first move knowing very well her shy nature wouldn’t allow her to do so. They love her, want her, but still have conquests while they wait for her to make said move. In chapter five, Barrett could tell by Laura’s expression she was expecting to be asked out by Grey. I’m sorry but the five-year-plan should’ve went out the window long before it did. They knew she was interested so the Doms should’ve stepped up to the plate well before chapter 9.

With that said, once they realized they were losing her, the gloves came off. The Doms definitely took charge. THANK F…K!!

To sum up certain pivotal chapters, I’ve named them which I think gives you as idea what’s in store before you read them. And, oh, YOU SHOULD READ THEM!

Chapter 11: It’s time to get down and dirty……talk!
Chapter 12: The fun’s just beginning….
Chapter 13: May I lend you a hand?

I could name them all but I think the ones above might’ve sparked some interest so, with that in mind, my job is now complete.

Happy Reading!!

Beyond the Veil by Jessica Majzner (Book Review)

51awpunwfkl-_sy346_

A fabled wall, marking the territory of the werewolves and adorned with the severed skull of a once great alpha, stands between Natalya and her prey.

When she finds the body of Anesa, her beloved mentor, she is determined to hunt down the vampire responsible. Crossing the border into Claw Haven to follow him is sacrilege though, and the undead werewolves whose skeletal bodies wane and wax with the moon are more terrifying than the vampire she seeks. But there she meets Voren, a werewolf who is a living contradiction to everything she has been led to believe.

Her journey into the lives of the pack entwines her and Voren’s fates with that of a master vampire’s: Arkadith. Defeating him may lift Voren’s curse and bring peace to Valwood and Claw Haven, but Arkadith is determined to bring an end to this vampire huntress as well…

(review request submitted by the author for an honest critique)

Throughout the years, I have watched many movies/shows that focused on vampires and werewolves. I’ve also read my share of books centering on them. With all of them, they share one common denominator…..not all “creatures” want the curse bestowed upon them.

Within every faction, wolf or vamp, there was some who fight the pull of the beast within and those who embraced the darkness. Beyond the Veil was no exception to the rule. It had werewolves, vamps, and humans who loved the thrill of the kill and ones who fought for peace instead of death and carnage.

I will say this, the battles between the humans and wolves were brutal – bloody – and everything you’d expect in a scifi (paranormal fantasy) book. The true form of the wolf alone will stand out in your mind as the one of the best shifting scenes in any written form. They are not the beautiful beasts depicted in famous tv shows. They are not even Hallmark card worthy. In my opinion, Jessica’s twist to a well-known shifter was a welcomed change to the norm. She brought fresh life into something gone stale. Good job!

As you can tell, I absolutely enjoyed the story except for two smalls thing……Anesa’s quick end and the final moments of Part II (no spoilers).

Anesa: As I watched her fight the vamps in chapter 1 and meet her end, I wondered why Jessica didn’t extend her role a few more chapters. I’d been happy for a flashback or two regarding her training Natalya. Based off Anesa’s combat skills, it would’ve been nice for Natalya to recall times with the fortune teller as they were laying her to rest or at other times Natayla remembered the wise, old woman.

However, despite my need for more Anesa and the predicable plot twist in Part II, Beyond the Veil didn’t disappoint and I’m sure it won’t for you either.

51v7fll1abl

Mind traveler Chandra Lamar is on the run, not only from her post-catastrophic dystopian government but from a past she can’t remember. A psychic vision pushes her to recall her purpose for being, but it’s a ghost that awakens her desires for a life she fears she’ll never have. Both push her to remember the past because it threatens what she wants in the now, the Nodin men.

Andonis Nodin battles to accept his failures. The heavy burden nearly breaks him when he can’t save a loved one from the grim reaper’s grip and questions his desire for Chandra, the woman he blames for the death around him.

Nikias finds true love with Chandra in his arms, but is desperate to stop her from seeking revenge on a mission he knows is a one-way trip.

Ortello knows for them to recapture the love they once felt for each other, he must be willing to let her go. But overcoming his obsession to make Chandra his and his alone isn’t easy.

Will Chandra go through with the vengeance in her heart or give it up for love? Who is the powerful woman in her haunting visions and will those revealing apparitions crumble her world with the Nodin clan? Does Chandra find true love in the arms of the Nodin men or does her Phantom Desire forever own her heart?

We all deal with death and the loss of a friend or loved one in our own way. We cry, withdraw into ourselves, throw ourselves into work, lash out in anger, or latch on tight to those who are living in fear of losing someone else.

No matter the coping mechanism we choose, there’s a common denominator which is essential in helping us move on and that’s LOVE.

Before we reach the last page of this story, I must warn you, they’ll be some unorthrodox scenes. Okay, it might not be weird to you but it was for this chick. I’m not into ghost sex. Yeah, you read that right. Chandra was intimate with a ghost aka Ortello. In fact, the book started off with this unusual, out of the box, sexual relations.

Not my cup of tea but her love scenes with Nikias and Andonis (alone and together) were right up my kinky alley.

Nikias’ first sexual encounter was with Chandra and he caught on fast to the act of fuckery. Gotta love a man who can take direction. 😉 And Adonis, I have four words for you…

“drawer of sexual treasures”

If you are into kink and toys, then you’ll love what he pulled out for their pleasure.

Even though they are several chapters of bedroom action, Chandra does see some brief action on the field. The short time away leads to a few major bombshells. Yup, humungous cliffhanger but I won’t be speaking on that. If you want to know, then you must buy the book. A purchase I’m sure you WON’T REGRET making.
