NYPD Red by James Patterson and Marshall Karp (Book Review)

Book Description

It’s the start of Hollywood on Hudson, and New York City is swept up in the glamour. Every night, the red carpet rolls out for movie stars arriving at premieres in limos; the most exclusive restaurants close for private parties for wealthy producers and preeminent directors; and thousands of fans gather with the paparazzi, hoping to catch a glimpse of the most famous and beautiful faces in the world. With this many celebrities in town, special task force NYPD Red is on high alert-and they can’t afford to make a single mistake.

Then a world-renowned producer fatally collapses at his power breakfast, and top NYPD Red Detective Zach Jordan is the first one on the scene. Zach works with his beautiful new partner, Detective Kylie MacDonald-who also happens to be his ex-girlfriend-to discover who the murderer might be. But this is only the beginning: the most brutal, public, and horrifyingly spectacular crimes they’ve ever encountered are about to send all of New York into chaos, putting NYPD Red on the ropes.

Zach and Kylie know there’s no way of telling what a killer this deranged will do next. With the whole world watching, they have to find a way to stop a psychopath who has scripted his finale down to the last explosive detail. With larger-than-life action, relentless speed, and white-knuckle twists, NYPD Red is the next mega-blockbuster from “The Man Who Can’t Miss.” (TIME)

Review

It’s a rarity when I don’t love every bit of a James Patterson story. Unfortunately, this is one of those times I wasn’t 100% thrilled with the read. Unlike his other stories, this one was slow out of the gate and stayed in turtle mode for almost the entire 300+ pages. I will give him props on one scene – the final death scene. I’ve never seen it done before in print, television, or on the big screen. I wonder how soon before I do. 🙂

Her Magic Touch & Badass by Sable Hunter (Book Review)

An Erotic Romance – Daredevil Joseph McCoy is convinced of two things: first, he’s invincible – and second – he’s God’s gift to women. But heaven has other ideas. Joseph’s world is turned upside down when he wrecks his dirtbike and finds himself paralyzed from the waist down. For a while, Joseph doesn’t know if he wants to live – until Cady comes to take care of him. Cady is Joseph’s guardian angel – literally. And she will do anything to make sure he regains all he has lost – including his manhood. Cady is not Joseph’s usual type of woman – but by the time this handsome cowboy knows what hit him – Cady has found a place in his heart. After Joseph has experienced Her Magic Touch – he will never be the same. Joseph falls in love with Cady and learns that true beauty is a rare and wonderful thing.

Review

As a woman who’s battled the “ugly duck syndrome”, I could relate to Cady – feel her pain. For quite a bit of this installment in the Hell Yeah series, I didn’t like Joseph’s character. I found him to be a douche. He constantly made Cady feel less than beautiful and no matter if a person is homely or not, they don’t need to constantly hear how they are ‘lacking” in the looks department. However, I know it was his “manly pride” causing him to behave like an ass so I kept that thought in mind as I continued on.

Eventually, he realized he was being a jackass and saw her true beauty even though his actions and word choices didn’t always show his true feelings. It just proves how strong Cady was in this story or maybe it was because of their past connection which made her not lose faith in him. Yes, she was his guardian angel reborn to complete a mission. (Not a spoiler. It’s on the book’s description.)

By the end, I did come to LIKE Joseph and became a FAN of the duo!

Oh and I loved the sneak peek into their future – sweet and sad, just like the chapters before it.

Isaac McCoy is every woman’s dream. He’s a cowboy, one of the Texas McCoy’s of Tebow Ranch – tall, dark, handsome and sexy as hell. To add to the mystery, he’s a biker – clad in black leather, riding a big Harley – he makes the girls swoon. To put it simply, Isaac is the black sheep of the family. And what his family doesn’t know is that he’s also a Dom. Always a little different from his brothers –Isaac has been into fast cars, fast women – and the kinkier side of sex. Until Avery. That’s right’s the Texas Badass has fallen for the angel of Kerrville County – the Baptist Preacher’s daughter – Miss Prim and Proper. And that will never do. As much as he wants her, Isaac pushes her away – sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind.
Avery has been in love with Isaac for years and she’s ready to make her move. But Isaac makes it clear that they come from different worlds, there’s no way she can fit in to his life. She’s not the kind of woman he needs. So, Avery decides to take matters into her own hands. What she intends to do is take lessons in how to be a bad girl. Avery is determined to learn what it takes to please Isaac in every way. She’s seriously after her Badass – and soon, he’s not going to know what hit him.

Review

It was freaking eerie how much Avery and I had in common.
* Preacher’s daughter
* Romance writer
* Motorcycle rider (Me – former)
* Engaged in hands-on sexual research
* Fell in love with a biker
* Rarely uses profanities
* Realized she liked “kink”
* and the list goes on……..

Wow, that list just made me want to read about Isaac and Avery again!

Tess by G.E. Stills (Book Review)

It’s been a really bad night. First Tess is sexually harassed by her lecherous boss and then she finds that during her shift as a cocktail server it has snowed. Things can’t get worse. Can they? They can. As she trudges through the cold, she is attacked by a mugger and stabbed. When she wakes she finds that she is in a strange bed, with no clothes on, and held captive while wearing a collar that is chained to a wall. Across the room sits a stranger gazing at her. Tess soon finds out there really are things that go bump in the night and her captor, Alonzo, is one of those things.

For a person who whole-heartedly believes no relationship can last without laughter, I was happy to see many playful moments between Alonzo and Tess. Of course, their courtship was far from the norm…even for a vamp and human. Stabbing, near death experiences, a kidnapping, and a battle that changes everything. Interest peaked, yet? Good. I think you’ll enjoy this story. I sure did.

Darker After Midnight by Lara Adrian (Book Review)

In the dark of night, a blood war escalates within the hidden world of the Breed. After maintaining a fragile peace with the humans who walk beside them unaware, a single act of retaliation has put the vampire nation at risk of discovery. It falls to the Order—a cadre of Breed warriors pledged to protect their own and humankind alike—to stop Dragos, the power-mad vampire, before his push for domination explodes into catastrophe.

At the center of the Order’s quest is Sterling Chase, whose biggest battle is the one he wages against his own savage nature. But when his eyes meet those of Tavia Fairchild, Chase finds himself drawn to the woman—and convinced she is something much more than she seems. And while everything logical warns Tavia against getting close to Chase, she cannot deny that he stirs something ravenous within her. As the Order’s enemy mobilizes for the battle of the ages, Chase and Tavia are thrust into the heart of the violence. With time running out, they must find a way to defeat Dragos once and for all—or die trying.

Once again, the Order find themselves battling the deranged Dragos aka Drake Masters, the alias he goes by in this action-packed story. In the next chapter of the Midnight Breed series, you won’t be disappointed or bored one solitary moment. Lara will keep you on your toes with new revelations, unexpected surprises, multiple battles, and love scenes.

I won’t divulge whether or not this is the last we’ve seen of Dragos because I don’t want to spoil it for others who haven’t read it yet. I will say she balances the good and evil parts very nicely. In other words, despite all the brutal mayhem unleashed on the humans, there are many sweet moments to be found.

I can’t wait for “Edge of Dawn” to come out in spring of 2013.

Author Showcase – Tracy James Jones

cbrtrapuyaeqptz

My name is Tracy James Jones and I am a blogger, reader, reviewer, writer, former actor and artist, with much love for films, music, books, and friendly people. :o)

Born and raised in Waxahachie & Dallas, Texas, I have had a lifetime love affair with the entertainment industry. Starting with singing in my church choir, I later ventured into stage productions with my local community theater and eventually feature films.

I started writing in high school, with the help of an amazing Journalism teacher, which I continued as my major in college, with a minor in mass communications. Switching from journalism to creative writing came into play after I was offered the opportunity to write the life story of a local boxer, which later became a documentary film. Writing his story opened the door for me to begin writing my own novels and short stories.

To date, my literary portfolio is 24 pages long, featuring talent resume, newspaper articles, book tours, author events, book promotions, and reviews. My writing includes 2 screenplay adaptations of my original fiction novels, “Searching For Eden” & “The Inhabitants of Magnolia Park.” My novel, “Secrets & Lies,” is also being formatted for film.

In the future I plan to write more human interest novels & short stories. I also hope to translate more of my work for screen. At present time, all of my books are available on amazon. Free shorts and excerpts are available on my blog and/or wattpad.com.

“Sometimes a need for keeping secrets

Can be just as intriguing as a reason for telling lies…”

”Secrets & Lies” is an emotional journey into the private lives of four central characters that can be defined as a contemporary multicultural romantic family drama with a twist. Overall, this book is about a group of not-so-ordinary people, all from very different backgrounds, whose secrets and lies leaves a trail of deceptions waiting to upset the rituals of their daily existence.

* * *

Kennedy Jordan is a handsome young man with a secret past and a challenging future that keeps him in the balance between having what he wants versus what is expect of him.

Camilla Vargas is a beautiful ambitious young woman with dreams of success that she plans to obtain by any means possible, and vows to not let anything keep her from it.

Ulanda Jefferson is a hip outspoken fashionista with a fiery attitude. Armored with sharp-wit and an uncensored tongue, she is more than just a force to be reckoned with.

Bren Searcy is a grown-up lost in transition, (literally from male to female). There is almost nothing she wouldn’t bear to hang onto the happiness she has finally found.

* * *

In the end, for everyone involved, even the elements of true confessions gets lost in translation as the explicit details of who they are brings the group together in a surprising, yet necessarily finale that could change the course of their lives forever…
