Ultimate Sins by Lora Leigh (Book Review) (Warning: Spoilers Included!!)

A FORBIDDEN LOVE

Ex-Marine Crowe Callahan has only had one obsession in life: Amelia Sorenson. She is the only one who has ever gotten under his skin. However, she is also the daughter of his family’s sworn enemy: a man who has sought to destroy the Callahans for generations in order to further his own nefarious agenda.

A DANGEROUS FATE

When Amelia put herself on Crowe’s side and in Crowe’s bed, she became her father’s enemy as well. When Wayne Sorenson escapes capture, both Amelia and Crowe know it is only a matter of time before he resurfaces to exact his revenge. Now Crowe will claim Amelia in order to bait a killer and end things once and for all. But can he protect the woman he can’t seem to live without from one of the deadliest enemies he has ever known? And will he survive if he can’t? in Ultimate Sins.

(Warning: Spoilers Included!!)

Lora Leigh can write a love/sex scene. I mean, I’d be hard pressed to find anyone who would refute that claim. However, I needed/wanted the scale of sex to storyline tipped more in favor of the plot. In my estimation, the story encompassed about 85-90% sex. Now for most people, this wouldn’t be a problem. However for me, I was hoping the percentage would be cut by 30 points. I was highly anticipating Wayne’s downfall and felt let down.

Only one other thing bugged me enough to discuss. Crowe “suspected” Amelia was pregnant based off her departure and the lack of paper trail no investigator, not even he, could find.

Ok, granted he returned many years after the pregnancy but if you are like me, your body changes after the birth of a child – regardless if the baby is premature or not. For her not to have any physical signs of ever giving birth is remarkable. Ok maybe she worked out like crazy (not noted in book) and had a tight ass stomach (don’t recall mentioned). Maybe she didn’t have a single stretch mark (now that’s plausible for sure).

But, I’m still not buying it. But anyways……enough about that!

Time to move onto happy thoughts…….

Since I believe all reviews should have positive remarks in them, I will discuss points that stood out to me.

My heart broke as Thea retold the night Kimmy was born. I felt every bit of the pain and anguish Lora was trying to portray to us readers. I was drawn in; caring for imaginary characters who suddenly appeared so damn real. BRAVO LORA!

As for Kimmy, I love that firecracker. She is going to be a handful for many years to come. Poor Crowe. 🙂

No Limits by Lori Foster (Book Review)

A surprise inheritance reunites a mixed martial arts fighter with the woman he’s never forgotten in the first in a smoldering new series!

Cannon Colter is quintessential hero material: chiseled jawline, shredded body—the works. He’s also the guy who rescued Yvette Sweeny from kidnappers, only to put an end to her romantic dreams. These days, she’s older, smarter, determined to face whatever life throws her way. Even the prospect of sharing a house and business with Cannon.

Cannon knew Yvette wanted him three years ago. But she was young—and some things are worth waiting for. Thrown together by her grandfather’s legacy, he realizes how deep Yvette’s scars really go, and how much danger lurks in their quiet town. As pent-up desire explodes between them, protecting her becomes the only fight that matters. And he’ll break all the rules to do it…

I’m so thrilled Lori created this spin-off series centered around the rec center/fighters.

As with the Fighter series, there is plenty of action – yet the in ring action is not the primary focus of this series.

Cannon, the doll that he is, is still the ever loving “Saint”. He helps out anyone in need and the person who needs him the most is Yvette. In and out of the bedroom!

I adored their love story and was surprised who was the true villain. It was a curveball but I like curveballs. Don’t you?

And for the supporting cast featured in the story – aka the fighters/trainers at the center – I can’t wait to read their tales.

Next up? I’m thinking/hoping for Armie and Rissy. But then again, I’ll be happy with Denver/Cherry or whomever Lori pairs with Vanity. Really, I’m not picky. I simply want MORE!!!!!

Breathe Into Me by Sara Fawkes (Book Review)

How did my life get so broken? It’s a question Lacey St. James asks herself every day. Stuck raising her little brother in a trailer park while she works a dead end job at a grocery store, she has a stalker ex-boyfriend, a bad reputation, and no way out.

And then she meets Everett, whose presence changes her entire existence.

Everett is an outsider to her small community, in town for the summer housesitting one of the grand mansions off the Mississippi coast. When he saves her in a bar one night, she’s grateful but wary of his intentions. Lacey doesn’t trust most men in her life, but for reasons Lacey can’t understand, Everett is completely captivated by her. He’s determined to show her that life can offer more than she’d ever hoped for, if only she believes in herself. As she works with him to free herself, Lacey desperately yearns to trust him, to move on and perhaps start fresh.

But what happens when she finds out that everything he’s told her about himself was a lie?

While standing in the book section of my local store, I scanned the available books and decided whether I should pick up a ‘tried and true’ author or take a chance on a newbie. Based off the cover and summary, I decided to read a new author.

Her storyline is absolutely relatable to….everyone. Who hasn’t know someone who’s been knocked down repeatedly, been knocked down themselves, but kept on fighting?

When, in this day and age, do we not hear about cyber bullying in the news — in our own backyard?

Even though this story will touch many hearts, I still gave it 3.5 stars because the pace was slower than I like in my story and at times I found myself losing interest.

How to Handle a Heartbreaker by Marie Harte (Book Review)

Series: McCauley Brothers
Book 2 in series
Genre: Contemporary
Format: eBook, Print

Brody Singer took one look at Abby Dunn and fell in instant lust. Abby looks a lot like a woman he once knew, one who died years ago. But is his attraction merely a holdover from a secret crush from long ago? But Abby’s definitely someone different. She’s a lot shier, a lot sexier, and despite her attempts to dissuade his interest, mesmerizing.

Abby isn’t having it. She’s still trying to put her last disastrous relationship behind her and overcome the flaws her ex so kindly pointed out. She’s too short, too plump, too boring, too blah. But somehow Brody isn’t getting the picture that someone as handsome and built as he is should be with a woman far prettier. It doesn’t help that when writing her steamy books, she keeps casting Brody as the hero.

Only Abby can write her own ending. She just has to decide which version to keep: the one where she shows Brody she’s a woman worth keeping and he’s a man worth loving? Or the one where she settles for a rough draft of a life, alone and safe from ever getting hurt again?

I absolutely, positively agree with the message of this story —– Blood doesn’t make you a family. No, the people who care about you, are there for you through thick and thin, those are your family. Also, there is more to being a parent that sharing some DNA. Brody might not be a McCauley by birth but he is a McCauley nonetheless.
