The New Cowboy by Rebecca Winters (Book Review)

Living on her grandfather’s ranch, surrounded by her loving brothers and their families, is helping Avery Bannock put her painful past behind her. But ever since Zane Lawson came home, she’s been fighting her feelings for the rugged former Navy SEAL who’s sworn to keep her safe—in his arms.

After a decade undercover, Zane’s ready to settle in Montana horse country. Buying the ranch next to the Bannock spread was the first step. Now he’s got to convince the gun-shy archaeologist that he’s the only cowboy for her. As they work together to find out who’s stealing tribal artifacts from a nearby reservation, Zane will do everything in his power to win Avery’s trust…and turn their budding romance into a mission possible!

For the most part, I found the flow of the story lacking. I didn’t “connect” to the characters or the plot. I did find how Zane reacted/behaved towards Avery’s PTSD very sweet and endearing.

Furthermore, I did enjoy the Native American stories Avery told Zane. If you like Native American history, then I do think you’ll enjoy this story very much.

Cowboy Boots for Christmas by Carolyn Brown (Book Review)

51nvgzpkwyl-_sx302_bo1204203200_

‘Tis the season for…
Feasting
Frolicking
And…Feuding?

All he wants for Christmas is peace and quiet…
After two tours in Afghanistan, retired Army sniper Finn O’Donnell believes his new ranch outside the sleepy little town of Burnt Boot, Texas, is the perfect place for an undisturbed holiday season. But before he can settle in, an old friend shows up looking for protection and a place where nobody knows her name.

But that’s going to take a miracle…
Callie Brewster must relocate to protect her young nephew, Martin, and the only person she trusts is her old Army friend, Finn. Burnt Boot seems like the perfect place to be anonymous, but it turns out a small town with big drama is no place to hide…

When Callie arrived on Finn’s doorstep with her nephew/adopted son, Martin, I assumed the story would revolve around their love being born while they awaited the trial in which Martin had to testify in as being the eye witness to a murder.

However, Carolyn didn’t really address the incident until the very end and only then did she spend a couple lines on it. She did give Martin a couple nightmares but those scenes lasted (again) a few lines.

Basically, the plot of the story wasn’t about what united Callie and Finn. The story was about two people who had feelings for each other while in the military, didn’t disclose them, but after reuniting, they fell into a natural rhythm of partnership in life and in love.

During their journey to HEA they dealt with feuding neighboring families, unexpected houseguests and their own lingering doubts if they were meant to be.

Of course, as you can imagine, they were meant to be and together they created a big happy family.

Read the story and discover exactly how big their family became in such a short span of time.

Review of “Hidden Prey” – Cheyenne McCray

HIDDEN PREY
New York Times best selling author Cheyenne McCray returns to steamy romantic suspense with a high-octane thriller about a woman running from a Mexican cartel and the man determined to protect her.

Danger
Tori Cox, a talented and sought after musician, heads back to her roots in a small southwest town in Arizona as she flees an abusive relationship. When she arrives in Bisbee, she finds herself in the wrong place at the wrong time—and witnesses the execution of a Federal agent by none other than the son of El Demonio, the head of the Jimenez Cartel. Tori and everyone she loves is now in danger as the cartel comes after her before she can testify.

Desire
Landon Walker, a special agent with the Department of Homeland Security, rescues Tori when he sees the beautiful woman running from members of one of the most ruthless cartels in the world. He sets out to protect her, but soon protecting her isn’t enough. The fire between them makes him want her in a way that he’s never wanted another woman, despite his wounded heart.

Death
Diego Montego Jimenez will do everything in his power to kill the young American woman who threatens his business and family. No one lives to testify against the Jimenez Cartel. Landon isn’t about to let the cartel get hold of Tori. He’ll go to the ends of the earth and back to protect her—and show her he’s never letting her go.

Quick Thoughts

Cheyenne is back with a new series and I rather enjoyed it. IMO, it would make a perfect story arc for an episode of Breaking Bad, which I am currently engrossed in. Yeah, I know I’m way behind on the times with this show but I’m watching it now so …… 🙂

And now back to the book…..

If you like sexy cops, women who aren’t weak, and action, then you will enjoy this book. It is the perfect start to her new series. Can’t wait for book 2.

Belong to You by Cheyenne McCray (Book Review)

Anna Batista’s life is great. Her event planning career is well established, allowing a comfy budget for shopping splurges at her favorite boutique. She has great friends, lives comfortably with her aunt, uncle and two sweet, young cousins who she loves to watch as they grow up. Anna hasn’t found love, but why rush when everything else is going so right?

But Anna has a secret. If that secret is discovered, it would mean devastation for her entire family. The last person she should have anything to do with is Sheriff Mike McBride. Having anyone in law enforcement close just isn’t an option.

But Mike can’t be dissuaded. When he meets Anna, she immediately steals his heart. The beautiful, petite Anna is everything he’s ever wanted in a woman and he’ll move mountains to convince her that they’re made for each other. Even persuading her to work on his campaign.

When Mike’s opponent for sheriff blackmails Anna, she is plunged into a web of forced deceit that threatens to tear apart her family, her heart, and the good hearted man she has now fallen for. With the election in tatters, and his career at risk, Mike must make some hard decisions. Can a good man choose both love and duty?

QuickThoughts

Compared to the other books in the series, I found this a little slower in pace. It was cute, but I didn’t find myself immersed in their story like the others.

I did enjoy it though. Anna and Mike were a lovely couple. Their dates were sweet and fun.

Mike is a fine ass cowboy – honorable, romantic, and lets not forget sexxxxxy!

Made for You & Held by You by Cheyenne McCray (2 Book Reviews)

Detective Kelley Petrova’s life hasn’t been easy. The one constant in her adult life has been her career and the ability to make a difference in the lives of abused women and children. Having a capable and dedicated partner like Reese McBride, who also doesn’t happen to be one bit hard on the eyes, only makes her job easier and more worthwhile.

That is, until a string of cases go awry leading to injuries for both Kelley and Reese. When a domestic dispute goes bad and Kelley is shot while a woman is murdered, Kelley’s own personal history forces her to push ahead to find the woman’s killer and the kidnapper of the woman’s daughter. Difficult tasks even when not on a forced leave due to her injuries.

Detective Reese McBride knows his partner of two years is tough, smart, determined and for the first time ever is really noticing just how beautiful she is. Perhaps it’s the vulnerability of her injuries, but he’s having trouble denying his attraction. And forget about keeping her on medical leave, she always seems to be one step ahead of him on the case.
As much as he wants to, Reese can’t keep his partner down and soon they’re chasing after more than just a man and the girl he’s kidnapped. Drugs and a human trafficking ring are exposed and soon Kelley and Reese are running out of time.
The love that has developed between Kelley and Reese grows stronger with each day before they are brutally torn apart. Reese must not only find and rescue the little girl, he’s got to save Kelley before it’s too late.

Quick Thoughts

From beginning to end, this story was action-packed: drug smugglers, kidnappings, car wreck, stand-offs, and not to mention the LOVE scenes.

All the page turning excitement had me blasting through the book in a couple hours.

And the ending chapters, yeah, the mushy stuff arose but I liked it. It was a prefect ending to one HELLER good book!

Much like Cinderella, Hollie Simmons was waiting for her Prince Charming but wondering if her life was meant to be anything but a fairy tale. A kindergarten teacher, Hollie was raised to be a lady by her southern mother who passed away when Hollie was young. After a speedy remarriage by her father and more losses than she can count, Hollie is left alone in the world with only three cold, abusive stepbrothers who, along with their lowlife friend Freddy, are constantly into trouble of the worst kind and with Hollie as an easy mark.
When John McBride, a police lieutenant, saves Hollie from a nasty fall, she thinks perhaps her prince has finally come in the guise of a man she’s always wanted to get to know but was too shy.
John has seen too many cop marriages fail. He’s married to his job and doesn’t have room or the desire to be tied down. Until Hollie. As a cop he’s learned to trust his gut instinct. Perhaps he should have trusted it when told him to approach her long ago. Is he ready for the forever he sees in her eyes?
When Hollie is framed for a murder she did not commit and the key to proving her innocence seems impossible to find, will John be able to locate the shady character who committed the crime before Hollie is put behind bars? Is their love strong enough to withstand such a hardship to find their happy ending?

Quick Thoughts!

Way to go Hollie on being a tough ass chick who doesn’t go down lightly. John might’ve came to her rescue but Hollie proved she could handle her own when push comes to shove.

Yeah, we women totally rock!!

Only negative comment: It seems lately in the books I’ve been reading, the ladies (in their twenties) are virgins. NOT THAT THERE IS ANYTHING WRONG WITH THAT BUT, I hope this isn’t the newest reading trend. I kind of prefer women who have more experience and show the men some moves in the sheets – not vice versa. Just sayin’ 🙂
