Burned by Karen Marie Moning (Book Review) (Warning – Spoilers Included!)

MacKayla Lane would do anything to save the home she loves. A gifted sidhe-seer, she’s already fought and defeated the deadly Sinsar Dubh—an ancient book of terrible evil—yet its hold on her has never been stronger.

When the wall that protected humans from the seductive, insatiable Fae was destroyed on Halloween, long-imprisoned immortals ravaged the planet. Now Dublin is a war zone with factions battling for control. As the city heats up and the ice left by the Hoar Frost King melts, tempers flare, passions run red-hot, and dangerous lines get crossed. Seelie and Unseelie vie for power against nine ancient immortals who have governed Dublin for millennia; a rival band of sidhe-seers invades the city, determined to claim it for their own; Mac’s former protégé and best friend, Dani “Mega” O’Malley, is now her fierce enemy; and even more urgent, Highland druid Christian MacKeltar has been captured by the Crimson Hag and is being driven deeper into Unseelie madness with each passing day. The only one Mac can depend on is the powerful, dangerous immortal Jericho Barrons, but even their fiery bond is tested by betrayal.

It’s a world where staying alive is a constant struggle, the line between good and evil is blurred, and every alliance comes at a price. In an epic battle against dark forces, Mac must decide who she can trust, and what her survival is ultimately worth.

—–> Review (Spoilers Included) <—–

OMG, let me start by saying how much I have been anticipating this book. I am a humungous fan of all KMM books. She always delivers us passion, exceptional plots, and sexy – unforgettable characters.

In the latest Fever book, KMM not only delivered all the above but she threw us numerous shockers. Again I must stress if you haven’t read the book then STOP READING NOW. I don’t want to spoil the story for those who’ve yet to dive into this latest tale.

With that said………. My heart stopped beating on several occasions.

1.) We all know Ryodan’s look of interest – the notorious nod. Jo, his latest lover, has never turned him away. When she finally did, I was shocked. However, her bed wasn’t empty for long. Thanks to Mac, she went seeking out Lor who was pretending to be Pri-ya. His fakery was comical until Jo entered his sanctum. I didn’t expect a simple fuck fest to turn into him developing feelings for her. Oh yeah, I think Lor has it bad for her and, in time, I think she will return his feelings.

2.) When Dani went into the Hall of Mirrors and suddenly Jada appeared on the scene, I just knew they were one and the same. However, what I didn’t see coming was the twist KMM tossed out at us. Split personality….. Mac was right, it is like watching a soap opera and I LOVE IT. I love Ryo’s reaction when he realized Jada is Dani. His conversations regarding Dani/Jada were sweet, and we finally saw him unravel (as much as Ryo is capable of). If anyone doubted the respect he had for her, all doubts will be squashed. And I must say, I truly believe his feelings for (the now grown version of Dani) is love. He might not admit it out-loud yet, but he loves her.

Now as much as Jada adds heat and simple badassesness to the scenes, I miss fun loving Dani. I’m glad she emerged out of the mirrors 5+ years older, but I want the ice queen to fizzle out and the heart of gold Dani to emerge. Hopefully in the next book, we will see more of “Dana” back. Imagine this…..badass fighter, killer looks and a smart mouth attitude….. Ryo doesn’t stand a chance. If he hasn’t fallen yet, he will…. But then again, I still think he already has.

3.) Dageus, his dying and coming back to life, does this mean he is one of the Nine? I’m thinking….hell yeah!

4.) Welcome back, Christian. Missed ya!!!!!!!

Bad Romeo by Leisa Rayven (Book Review)

While performing the greatest love story of all time, they discovered one of their own…

Cassie Taylor was just another acting student with big dreams at her prestigious performing arts college, then she met Ethan Holt. She was the good girl actress. He was the bad boy on campus. But one fated casting choice for Romeo and Juliet changed it all. Like the characters they were playing on stage, Cassie and Ethan’s epic romance seemed destined. Until it ended in tragedy when he shattered her heart.

Now they’ve made it to Broadway where they’re reunited as romantic leads once again, and their passionate scenes force them to confront the heartbreaking lows and pulse-pounding highs of their intense college affair. For Ethan, losing Cassie was his biggest regret, and he’s determined to redeem himself. But for Cassie, even though Ethan was her first and only great love, he hurt her too much to ever be trusted again. The trouble is, working with him reminds her that people who rub each other the wrong way often make the best sparks. And when it comes to love, sometimes it’s the things that aren’t good for us that are the most irresistible.

When I first started reading this novel, the flip flopping from past to present was slightly annoying. It was happening too frequently and almost drew me away from what was happening now. However, the deeper I got into the story, I started to see its value.

I’m not sure if I’m a fan of the characters. For the most part, Ethan repeatedly came across as a jerk and Cassie seemed like a desperate woman. A bit too needy for my tastes. But on the other hand, they made each other better people as their story progressed.

When you read the emails he sent her, especially the final one, I’m sure you’ll be mentally saying “aww” or something to that nature.

His sweetness and her sudden backbone will have me tuning into the next story — Broken Juliet

~~~Review~~~
(Wolverine: Origins #21-25) I love when DP and Wolverine’s paths cross. I know I’m in for a wild ride and this time was no exception. When DP dropped a piano on Wolverine’s head, I actually laughed out loud. It appears Daniel Way was inspired by vintage Warner Bros. *grins*
(Deadpool #1-12 and Thunderbolts #130-131) Deadpool training Super Skrulls. All I can is OMFG. I read the “training” scenes over and over and (yeah you guessed it) over again.  I got two words for…. KNOCK KNOCK *smiling*
Oh yeah, the rest of this collection was  pretty spectacular too. That is, if you like the idea of DP making the moves on Black Widow, Taskmaster dressing up as DP to have a bit of fun against the Thunderbolts and Bullseye taking on DP at the end of this epic tale.
Poor, Deadpool, I can’t imagine the beast of a headache he had when Bullseye nailed him with the arrow to the noggin. Somethings Excedrin Migraine just can’t fix. *belly laugh*
Review
The phrase “love is blind”, without a doubt, pertains to Deadpool. He may not be easy on the eyes but his mouth keeps me in stitches. I love how you never know what crazy, weird, sarcastic lines will spew out of him next. He’s a freaking riot!
In this comic, the reader will be once again dazzled by his comic genius and his internal battle to do the right thing — to be a better man.
We see him face off with many people including a possessed Captain America.
We also discover a connection between Al and our favorite American hero.
From the dialogue to the marvelous illustrations by Walter McDaniel, Pete Woods, Steven Harris , and Yancey Labatthis book was brilliantly thought out and developed for our viewing pleasure.
Bravo Team Marvel! *round of applause*
BREAK OUT by Nina Croft (Book Review)
The year is 3048, Earth is no longer habitable, and man has fled to the stars where they’ve discovered the secret of immortality—Meridian. Unfortunately, the radioactive mineral is exorbitantly expensive and only available to a select few. A new class comprised of the super rich and immortal soon evolves. The Collective, as they’re called, rule the universe.
Two-thousand-year-old Ricardo Sanchez, vampire and rogue pilot of the space cruiser, El Cazador, can’t resist two things: gorgeous women and impossible jobs. When beautiful Skylar Rossaria approaches him to break a prisoner out of the Collective’s maximum security prison on Trakis One, Rico jumps at the chance. Being hunted by the Collective has never been so dangerous–or so fun!
Review
If you love shows like Firefly and Star Trek, then you’ll love this story. It has the feel of that show with the added bonus of having a sexy vampire as part of the rogue team.
In fact, the whole team is unique with their own skill set.
Speaking of the team, I enjoyed how they worked together. They might not claim to be a family but the “family feel” came through anyways.
As for the flow of the story, I did find myself growing bored with some sections. If it wasn’t for the interactions between Rico and Skylar, I’m not sure if I would’ve kept reading the science fiction/romance novel.
Since I never knew what trick he would pull next, I kept tuning back into the show.
Great job, Nina, for creating a character that keeps the reader coming back for more.
