weddingforchristmas-mm-c-2-2

The whole town is ready for the holidays: The Cookie Club is baking, Main Street glitters with lights, the carolers sing . . .There’s even a Christmas wedding.

When bodyguard Ryder Southerland sees his best friend’s sister Katie at an L.A. Christmas party, he mistakes the slinky blonde for a celebrity stalker and tackles her. Then they tackle each other . . . at his place. The next morning, Katie’s gone, and Ryder tells himself it’s for the best. It isn’t. Now, one Christmas later, Ryder’s falling for the woman he’s been missing in the town he hasn’t missed at all . . .

Katie Cheek’s outgrown the romantic fantasies she had about Ryder when she was fifteen. Katie’s packed their hot night away in a box labeled “fling”—or tried to. But Twilight’s bad boy is the best man in her brother’s wedding. And up-close and personal, Ryder’s impossible to ignore. So Katie can either go into hiding—or surrender to Christmas magic.

“BOLO. BOLO. Be on the lookout for a hot blonde in a red dress.”

Personal bodyguard, Ryder Southerland resisted an eye roll, and muttered into the tiny microphone clipped to his lapel. “I know what a BOLO is, Messer, and I don’t need an update every time you spy a good-looking woman.”

Not a hot chick alert. Repeat this is not merely a hot chick alert, although she does sizzle. It’s Ketchum’s stalker.”

Les Ketchum, the rodeo star turned country and western chart-topping singer, that Ryder had been hired to protect. Two weeks ago Les had broken things off with a buckle bunny in possession of a mean streak who couldn’t seem to take hasta la vista, baby, for the brush off it was.

Ryder’s entire body tensed, and he pressed a hand to the blue tooth device that fed Messer’s voice into his ear. “You sure?”

“Pretty sure.”

“Where?” Ryder leaned over the balcony railing, scanning the well-heeled crowd milling in the art gallery below.

You’d think a hot blonde in a red dress wouldn’t be that hard to spot, but since it was a celebrity-stubbed holiday bash a surprising number of women were wearing red. And sun-drenched LA had a knack for manufacturing blondes.

“You got Ketchum in sight?” Messer asked.

“Yes.” Ryder swung his gaze to his client who was kissing a busty redhead that was known for her appearances in makeup commercials, underneath a bouquet of mistletoe. “Does your red-dress blonde look armed?”

“It’d have to be in her purse. That dress is sprayed-painted on. Couldn’t hide anything underneath that.”

“Can you still see her?”

“Negatory. She disappeared in the crowd.”

“Stop talking, and freaking follow her.”

“I’m trying, but some drunk sitcom-actress just took off her top, and there’s a hundred guys in my way.”

This time, Ryder did roll his eyes.

Trite. His job was trite. Protecting spoiled celebrities from overly zealous fans who thought getting near them meant something special. But after four years in the Middle East, and an unpleasant bout of PTSD, Ryder was good with trite.

And working for his former platoon leader’s personal security business in LA was a long sight better than crawling home to Twilight where small town minds had branded him disreputable years ago.

Pathetic.

He was twenty-nine years old, had been a decorated MP in the US Army, and yet he couldn’t shake the old childhood wounds, and the names he’d been called—bad boy, punk, troublemaker, delinquent, thug.

Ah, his youth. Those were the days.

There was only one family in the whole town he gave a fig about, and that was the Cheeks. The family who’d taken him in when his father kicked him out and no one else would touch him.

His favorites of all the Cheeks was his best friend Joe, and the other was Joe’s kid sister, Katie. He hadn’t talked to Joe since his friend had moved back to Twilight to take over his ailing grandfather’s Christmas tree farm that summer. And it had been two years since they’d seen each other in person, back when Ryder had crashed at Joe’s place for a couple of months after he’d been discharged from the Army, and he was struggling to get his act together.

And as for Katie?

In his mind she was still the gawky fifteen-year-old who’d flung herself into his arms and kissed him. And that had been the last time he’d seen her, but he couldn’t help wondering what she looked like today.

Head in the game, Southerland. Katie ain’t nothing but a fond memory.

He leaned farther over the balcony railing for a better look, watching the circular metal staircase that led to the second story exhibits. The party was in full swing. The band blasted Christmas songs. People packed in close dancing, drinking, eating canapés served by tuxedoed waiters passing through the throng.

The crowd was eclectic. Young and old, trendy and traditional, dressed down and dressed up, an equal mix of male and female. The majority of them were wealthy, or plus ones of the wealthy. Ironic, how much money was being spent raising funds to benefit poverty. Why not just give the money to the homeless?

He scanned the three exits he could see, each one manned by museum security, and finally caught sight of Messer trapped in a bottleneck near the entrance.

He counted off the attractive blondes in red dresses, one, two, seven, a dozen. Was one of the Ketchum’s stalker?

Concerned, he glanced back at Ketchum. The celebrity and his woman of choice, who had shifted to the bench exhibit seating, near the restrooms and they were still in a lip-lock, hands all over each other. The second floor was reserved for special VIP sponsors, and Ryder was the threshold guardian to their domain.

From his peripheral vision, he caught movement at the top of the staircase. A blonde. In red. Hurrying.

Hurrying hell, the woman was full on running.

Immediately, Ryder tensed, and his hand touched the Taser at his hip. He didn’t want to use it, or the concealed Sig Saucer in his shoulder holster. Discretion was a big part of his job. Diplomacy another.

Besides, she was a woman. He was big, and she was small. Body block, and chokehold ought to do it, and that was only if she was unreasonable.

He didn’t want things getting messy.

In two long-strides, he reached her, and for a split second, he was struck by the notion that anyone watching them might assume they were lovers rushing into each other’s arms.

Except she showed no signs of slowing down, her gaze fixed to the spot where Ketchum sat kissing the redhead. This had to be the stalker, hyped up with rage, jealousy, adrenaline and god knows what else.

Instinct, honed from numerous tours in the sandbox, took over and he reacted without hesitation. It happened during the space of a single breath. Grabbing her by the arm, flipping her onto her back, falling atop of her, pinning her to the floor in a four-point restraint.

“Stand back people!” Messer shouted. Ryder felt rather than saw his colleague herding people down the steps. “Nothing to see here. Go downstairs and enjoy the party.”

Ryder’s hands manacled her wrists. His cowboy boots locked spread-eagle around her ankles. The woman was panting.

And so was he, because he realized not only was she not Ketchum’s stalker, but he knew her.

Ryder peered down into her face. A familiar face despite the fact it had changed a lot over the past twelve years.

Katie Cheek.

What in the blazes?

All the air exited his body in one hard puff.

Her features were softer, thinner, and prettier than ever. The glasses were gone, and so were the braces, and instead of frizzy untamable, dishwater blond curls, her hair was straight and lush and golden.

Yes, she’d changed a lot, but he would recognize her anywhere.

Yep. Katie Cheek, all right.

It was high school buddy’s kid sister, all grownup, and curvy in the most dangerous places.

Dangerous in a Kilt by Anna Durand (Book Review)

dik-cover-500x800

Good-girl Erica Teague is out on bail, charged with a crime her ex-lover committed. images-17

(review request submitted by the author for an honest critique)

From the moment Erica and Lachlan meet, you know this couple is going to be entertaining to read. Neither set out to have more than a casual fling but you don’t need to be psychic to see this casual set-up turning serious rather quickly. Anna kept tossing the “rules” at us so it was only a matter of time before following them became a hinderance to what was building between them.

Really, how could Erica not fall for the Scottish sex god. He was sweet, charming, romantic, thoughtful, had a voice that could make you weak in the knees and HE WORE A BLOODY KILT. Hello, I’m surprised she lasted as long as she did before hopping on his mighty sword. (Joke within the book)

With all the romantic gestures and surprises he planned for her, his most thoughtful gift was helping clear her name from the embezzlement charges. Money may not buy love but, in this case, it helped set his love free.

Now with all the positives I had regarding Dangerous in a Kilt, there was one black spot that I couldn’t shake. It’s what made me drop my rating score a smidgen. On page 106, Erica seemed to to think being a nerd is a bad thing. Lachlan says, “Never call yourself a nerd again. Never.” Then on page 167, Lachlan (Anna Durand) spoke as if being nerdy was a negative trait to possess. He said to Erica, “I told you never to call yourself that again. You are a stunning, sensual woman.” Did I miss something here? Is he, Lachlan, (and the author, Anna Durand) insinuating a woman can’t be nerdy and sensual at the same time? If so, I whole-heartedly disagree. I happen to be a nerdy chick and very pleased with my sex life.

What Lachlan should’ve said was something like this…..

Embrace your nerdiness, woman, as much as you embrace your naughtiness. Now, show me how naughty my nerdy woman can get.

REVIEW

Christmas is the time of year where we wish, hope, and dream that the impossible becomes possible. Young, old, man, woman, adult, child, rich or poor, we all have a wish or have had a wish you’d like see come true.

Some children dream of a puppy, pony, a toy, or for a parent to be there on Christmas morning. Some adults long for a spouse to be home for the holidays, more financial security, a Christmas miracle, or finding love at last.

In the case of the three women in Three Christmas Wishes, they all went to see Santa for their own personal reasons. Basically, they need Santa to perform a miracle pertaining to man issues.

Jo wanted her Navy husband to be home permanently so he could watch their child grow up. Riley’s engagement recently ended when her fiancé fell out of love with her and into love with her bridesmaid. And Noel, she was unsure if she’d ever achieve her happily ever after.

After a brief and odd encounter with a mall Santa, what they deemed impossible — a lost cause — didn’t seem so far fetched at all. After a few bumps, several tears, more than one spill, and a couple fender benders, these three did get what they most wanted for Christmas.

A VERY HAPPY CHRISTMAS AND A VERY HAPPILY EVER AFTER!

Twelve Days of Christmas by Debbie Macomber (Book Review)

51eenodfxcl-_sx340_bo1204203200_

Continuing in a festive annual tradition, #1 New York Times bestselling author Debbie Macomber returns with a new original holiday novel full of romance and cheer—and the magical prospect of finding love in the most unexpected places.

Friendly and bubbly, Julia Padden likes nearly everyone, but her standoffish neighbor, Cain Maddox, presents a particular challenge. No matter how hard she’s tried to be nice, Cain rudely rebuffs her at every turn, preferring to keep to himself. But when Julia catches Cain stealing her newspaper from the lobby of their apartment building, that’s the last straw. She’s going to break through Cain’s Scrooge-like exterior the only way she knows how: by killing him with kindness.

To track her progress, Julia starts a blog called The Twelve Days of Christmas. Her first attempts to humanize Cain are far from successful. Julia brings him homemade Christmas treats and the disagreeable grinch won’t even accept them. Meanwhile, Julie’s blog becomes an online sensation, as an astonishing number of people start following her adventures. Julia continues to find ways to express kindness and, little by little, chips away at Cain’s gruff façade to reveal the caring man underneath. Unbelievably, Julia feels herself falling for Cain—and she suspects that he may be falling for her as well. But as the popularity of her blog continues to grow, Julia must decide if telling Cain the truth about having chronicled their relationship to the rest of the world is worth risking their chance at love.

No matter the time of year, whether it’s a special occasion, holiday or just an ordinary day, we ALL SHOULD show kindness, generosity, and a share a smile.

Positive actions cause positive reactions!!

Debbie was correct, one act (big or small) will cause a ripple effect and this world needs more light, more goodness. That’s why I love and embrace paying it forward mentality. It’s also why this book is a MUST READ for everyone. It would be a GREAT BOOK to give as a Christmas present or a just because gift.

It’s never too late to follow in Julia’s footsteps. Bake someone some cookies, pay for another person’s coffee, bring them soup when their sick or walk their dog when they can not, or just play a game with them and talk. In return, you might learn a thing or two…..like Julia, like Cain, like Julia’s followers, like myself.

Frozen by L.A. Casey (Book Review)

511tlud8uvl-1

Neala and Darcy have loved to hate each other since they were kids. Forced together, will they be naughty—or can they play nice?

There’s one must-have toy this Christmas, and Neala Clarke has told her niece Charli she’ll get it for her. Never mind that she’s got less than a week and it looks like everywhere is sold out. She’s promised Charli a Fire Princess doll—and Neala is a woman of her word.

Darcy Hart is a people-pleaser. So when his adorable six-year-old nephew, Dustin, asks for a particular doll at the last minute, he says yes. Luckily for Darcy, there’s one left in stock at the local toy store. Unluckily for Darcy, he’s not the only person who wants it—and his rival is the one woman who’s immune to his charms.

This can’t possibly end well for both of them…can it?

I snarled, “Give me the doll. Now!”
Darcy had the doll box against his chest with both hands on it. His fingers tapped against the cardboard while a smug smile stretched across his face.
He glanced to the snowmen gathered around my feet and teased, “You’ve got to watch your step, sweetheart.”
I blew out a frustrated breath. “I swear if you don’t give me that bloody doll I’ll-“
“You’ll what?” he cut me off, his smug smile still in place on his handsome face.
Damn him.
“I’ll shove me foot so far up your arse you’ll need a surgeon to remove it.”
Darcy’s eyes widened. “You’re a foot shorter than me, and at least fifty pounds lighter. You’re a tiny little thing, Neala Girl. I’m not scared of you. You can’t hurt me.”
Wrong.
He was so wrong.
“I can hurt you, and I will unless you give me the doll.”
Darcy raised an eyebrow and snorted. “How about… no.”
Bastard!
I curled my lip into a sadistic grin. “Okay, you asked for it.”
Darcy shook his head at me and moved forward so he could brush by me. “I don’t have time for – What the hell?”
When he was close enough to do so I manoeuvred my body behind his, hooked my arms around his chest and searched for his nipples with my hands. When I found them, I grabbed them between my index fingers and thumbs and pinched.
“Me nipples, let go of me nipples!” Darcy roared.
I growled and tweaked his nipples a little harder.
“Let go of the doll, and I’ll let go of your nipples.”
There was a sentence I never thought I’d hear myself say.

Neala and Darcy were once childhood friends –  the very best. Then, one day, their friendship ended and their feud began.

Thorough-out the years, they have made each other lives miserable because they can’t get pass one regrettable moment where he didn’t take her side during a childhood playground fight.

Their animosity carried over into adulthood and caused tension at family events. One event in particular ended with explosive results for Darcy. I mean, shit hit the fan.  😯  I’m not gonna lie, the prank Neala pulled on him was painfully funny to read. 🙂 However, the best prank of all wasn’t pulled off by either of them. (no spoilers)

Now back to the reason why they are at each other’s throats – this time. Cue this Christmas’ must have toy, the last Fire Princess doll. I can recall the frenzy I watched unfold on tv when Tickle Me Elmo first came onto the scene. People went batshit crazy for that overpriced toy. So, I CAN absolutely envision the wrestling match/battle over who gets to claim Fire Princess as theirs.

In the end though, everything worked out. Darcy and Neala realized they truly loved each other all these years. The revelation surprised no one but them. We also saw the magic of Christmas and young love spark to life.
