Author Showcase/Interview and Review of “Programmed to Please” – Jenna Ives

Very human Tau Cetus police agent Jai Turner is sent undercover as a Beautiful Dolls sex robot in order to bring down the planet’s most notorious arms dealer, Marque Callex. Jai’s assignment is to use the Beautiful Dolls’ legendary sexual techniques to coax information out of Marque on his illicit dealings – information that will lead to his conviction.

Reclusive arms dealer Marque Callex only accepted an invitation from Beautiful Dolls because with his deadly line of work – and the dangerous secrets he’s keeping – he can’t afford to let a real woman into his life. But neither Jai nor Marque are what they seem, and their week together has consequences neither expect.

(review request submitted by the author for an honest critique)

A world with sexbots? Yeah I can totally see that coming to pass. With the way technology is advancing, I have no doubt a life-like robot isn’t being developed somewhere in a lab right now.

Creepy?
Maybe.

My real concern is how sanitary the bots will be to their “renters”. I mean, if I were to purchase the services of a sexbot (not saying I would), I need to make sure it’s been scrubbed since the last “user” had its fill of it.

Hello, germaphobe over here!!

Thankfully, there was no actually BOT BOINKING happening between Jai and Marque. Jai merely pretended to be one, rather convincingly too. Of course, when you are as lonely as Marque, you’ll believe it because you’re starved for a few moments of happiness. Real or not. (Special Note: There was some robot fun during a “training” session. Jai had to learn how to sexual perform as a robot.

Luckily for him, the feelings he developed for Jai saved him. Literally and figuratively.

All in all, I liked this book – a lot. It wasn’t all about the sex. It had a solid plot and that plot wasn’t pushed to the backside while we watched repeated sexual scenes splashed across the screen/pages.

For me personally, I think a story is golden when the plot is not throw out there like an afterthought.
So with the combination of great sex scenes and a solid plot, which wrapped up nicely with no lingering “WTF” moments, I’m highly suggesting you order yourself a copy today.

1. Welcome, Jenna Ives! For those who might not be familiar with you, would you be a dear and tell the readers a little about yourself? How did you get your start in the writing business?

(Jenna) I started telling stories to my two brothers and little sister when I was about eleven, so you could say the creative gene came out in me at a very early age. From there it was easy to put the stories down into print.

2.  Do you ever suffer from writer’s block? If so, please share how you handle it.

(Jenna) My critique partner says there’s no such thing as writer’s block, just bad planning. I’ll bet you can guess she’s a plotter, LOL! I’m a “pantser” (I write by the seat of my pants) so sometimes I DO experience writer’s block, but I believe that if you know how your story starts and how it ends, then getting there is part of the fun, even if sometimes you stumble along the way! If I feel blocked, I take a
nap. Or a walk. The mind is very good at thinking even when you don’t think you’re thinking, LOL. The answers will come and the “block” will dissolve.

3. Contrary to what some people envision about a romance writer’s life, it’s not all glitz and glam. Well not for the majority of us. With that bubble sadly busted, when you’re not writing, how do you spend your time?

(Jenna) Well, I have a day job (actually two jobs) so I don’t have a lot of free time. At night and on the weekends I try to write as much as I can, but I DO have a standing date with my husband. We go to an afternoon movie and out to dinner every Saturday.

4. I know many writers, such as myself, keep their pastime/career a secret. Do those close to you know you write? If so, what are their thoughts?

(Jenna) Ha, ha… my mom knows that I’m a multi-published, award-winning author, but she also knows my stories are too sexy for her to read. A few people at work know I’m a romance author, but they don’t know my pseudonym.

5. Will you share with us your all-time favorite authors? If
you’re like me, it’s a long list so give us your top ten.

(Jenna) “Favorite” is hard, because I read across a wide genre of titles. I love historical fiction, so Dorothy Dunnett and Bernard Cornwell would definitely be on that list, but I’ve also read and enjoyed Stephenie Meyer and Suzanne Collins.  Anne Rice was writing about vampires before they were trendy, and as for romances, Leigh Court is definitely a favorite.

6. If you could choose one book to go to the big screen, yours or otherwise, which book would you choose and whom would you love to see cast in the parts?

(Jenna) I think The Legend series by Marie Lu would be awesome on-screen.  As popular as Insurgent/Divergent/Allegiant, for sure! I don’t know who I’d cast, though…

7. Would you care to tell us what you’re working on now? That is if it’s not top-secret information. If so, just whisper it in my ear. I swear it’ll go no further

(Jenna) Right now I’m just finishing up book 3 in my Tau Cetus chronicles, a slightly-futuristic series which features police agents and Beautiful Doll sex robots working to save their planet.  The titles are Programmed To Please, Programmed To Protect, and the third, Programmed For Power, should be out shortly!

8. Where can we find your stories, and is there a particular reading order?

(Jenna) You can find my books on amazon, B&N, iBooks, Kobo, Smashwords, anywhere books are available J  The order is listed above.  I also have The Initiation Of Isabella with Samhain Publishing, and there’s Snow White And Her Seven Lovers, which is a modern-day take on the fairy tale!  The title says it all…

9. Would you please share how your present and future fans can contact you?

(Jenna) Fans can contact me at jenna@jennaives.com, follow me on Twitter @JennaIvesAuthor or connect on Facebook.  I’m part of a multi-author blog at http://fierceromance.blogspot.com.

10. Before we conclude this enlightening interview, do you have anything else you’d like to share? The stage is all yours.

(Jenna) I write romance novels because with all the challenges and stress in our daily lives, I like to guarantee that a reader of my books can escape into a story with a happy ending.  We all deserve that!

Ladies and Gents, I hope you enjoyed my interview with Jenna Ives. If you have any questions or comments for Jenna, by all means, leave her a message below. But before you do, make sure and keep scrolling down because she has a whole lot more to offer!!

I only planned to stay until my memory returned & I could figure out if someone really had tried to kill me, but something about these seven men attracted me powerfully enough to want to explore it.Intimately. That is, until the day my fiancé showed up…

Witchlock by Dianna Love (Book Review)

Witchlock vanished in the 13th century … or did it?

If Atlanta falls, Witchlock will sweep the country in a bloodbath.

After finally earning her place among the Beladors, Evalle is navigating the ups and downs of her new life with Storm when she’s sucked into a power play between her Belador tribe and the Medb coven. Both groups claim possession of the Alterants-turned-gryphons, especially Evalle, the gryphon leader. But an influx of demons and dark witches into Atlanta threatens to unleash war between covens, pitting allies against each other as a legendary majik known as Witchlock invades the city and attacks powerful beings. Evalle has one hope for stopping the invasion, but the cost may be her sanity and having to choose which friend to save.

 REVIEW

This book had a few lull moments such as the repeated “We need to talk” instances between Storm and Evalle. But, this latest tale in the Belador series had more action-packed, eye-opening, moments which outweighed the slow parts.

One such example, Isak and Adrianna interactions. These two are going to make quite the power couple once they get to the coupling part. A match has been lit and unfortunately we will have to wait until April 2016 for Dianna to flame this smoldering fire. In case you didn’t know, that date refers to the next Belador release – “Rogue Belador”.

The Shadows by J.R. Ward (Book Review) (WARNING – SPOILERS INCLUDED)

Two brothers bound by more than blood fight to change a brutal destiny in the heart-wrenching new novel of the Black Dagger Brotherhood by #1 New York Times bestselling author J. R. Ward..

Trez “Latimer” doesn’t really exist. And not just because the identity was created so that a Shadow could function in the underbelly of the human world. Sold by his parents to the Queen of the S’Hsibe as a child, Trez escaped the Territory and has been a pimp and an enforcer in Caldwell, NY for years- all the while on the run from a destiny of sexual servitude. He’s never had anyone he could totally rely on… except for his brother, iAm.

iAm’s sole goal has always been to keep his brother from self-destructing- and he knows he’s failed. It’s not until the Chosen Serena enters Trez’s life that the male begins to turn things around… but by then it’s too late. The pledge to mate the Queen’s daughter comes due and there is nowhere to run, nowhere to hide, and no negotiating.

Trapped between his heart and a fate he never volunteered for, Trez must decide whether to endanger himself and others- or forever leave behind the female he’s in love with. But then an unimaginable tragedy strikes and changes everything. Staring out over an emotional abyss, Trez must find a reason to go on or risk losing himself and his soul forever. And iAm, in the name of brotherly love, is faced with making the ultimate sacrifice..

Review (Spoilers Included)

Let me stress again that if you HAVEN’T READ the latest BDB book yet then DO NOT READ ON.

Okay, Ward definitely dropped some major revelations upon us. I didn’t see iAm’s true status coming. It was way out of left field. To Ward, I say, “Way to go chickie pie.” I do love me some surprises. Also, I am so glad he finally got him some lovin and found his mate/wife/shellan. Whatever title you want to bestow upon her.

Now for the bitchin’ part of this review…….

WHAT THE HELL, WARD! You have the fans watch Selena and Trez love unfold, never truly acted upon, and then when they do consummate their love, get engaged, she perishes. Yeah, her final days were sweet/romantic. Trez treated her like a queen so why did you allow her to “be free”? After Trez’s shadows delayed the disease from taking her/turning her into stone, I thought for sure we would see a cure. He would be her cure. Man, I felt ripped off.

When he met her in the Fade, I knew he wasn’t going to stay. Not after that gut-wrenching goodbye they shared. Again, I kept waiting for someone/something to step in and give them their HEA.

Maybe in the next book, something truly spectacular will occur. The way Rhage was acting, maybe something involving him. *shrugging*

For the most part, like 90%, I liked this book. However, I can’t believe the build-up to Trez and Selena big epic romance was over in a few short days.

Bummed.

Not pleased at all and I’m sure the other fans will be ranting and raving about this for a long time.

But as they say, “There is no such thing as bad press.”

Yup, this is going to be a best seller. No doubt about it. And I know, like most of you, you will be eagerly awaiting the next BDB book.

Season of Strangers by Kat Martin (Book Review)

Dedicated, driven real estate agent Julie Ferris is enjoying a day at the beach with her sister Laura when a strange, almost undetectable charge fills the air. Then, under the hot Malibu sun, time stops altogether.

Neither sister can explain their “lost day” —nor the blinding headaches and horrific nightmares that follow—but Julie chalks it up to the stress she’s been under since her boss’s son took over Donovan Real Estate.

Patrick Donovan would be a real catch if not for his notorious playboy lifestyle and matching attitude. But when a cocaine-fueled heart attack nearly kills him, Patrick makes an astonishingly fast—and peculiar—recovery. Julie barely recognizes the newly sober Patrick as the same man she once struggled to resist. Maybe it’s the strange beach experience fueling her paranoia, but she can’t help sensing something isn’t…right.

As Julie’s feelings for Patrick intensify, she’s about to discover how that day at the beach links her newfound happiness with her wildest suspicions..

As a comic book lover, I find nothing wrong with a human falling in love with an alien. Hello, Superman rocks! However, when I found this book in the grocery store, I didn’t realize it was sci-fi. The summary doesn’t elude to it being one. But with that aside, I still didn’t find myself enjoying this book as much as I hoped I would (based on the blurb).

For me, I think it’s rather creepy that…..Two sisters get abducted by aliens and get probed. Very thoroughly, I might add. Ugh!

The older sister, Julie, does fall in love with the alien scientist. Of course, at first, she has no clue he’s merged, taken over, Donovan’s lifeless shell. The same alien who had her probed on the ship later does some “probing” of his own —- human style. *laughing*

But Donovan, or Val (depending who he is at the time), does show more humanity than his “human” counterpart. He does become a better “Donovan” than the actual “Donovan”.

Man, reading that last line back sounds kind of creepy.

MacKayla Lane would do anything to save the home she loves. A gifted sidhe-seer, she’s already fought and defeated the deadly Sinsar Dubh—an ancient book of terrible evil—yet its hold on her has never been stronger.

When the wall that protected humans from the seductive, insatiable Fae was destroyed on Halloween, long-imprisoned immortals ravaged the planet. Now Dublin is a war zone with factions battling for control. As the city heats up and the ice left by the Hoar Frost King melts, tempers flare, passions run red-hot, and dangerous lines get crossed. Seelie and Unseelie vie for power against nine ancient immortals who have governed Dublin for millennia; a rival band of sidhe-seers invades the city, determined to claim it for their own; Mac’s former protégé and best friend, Dani “Mega” O’Malley, is now her fierce enemy; and even more urgent, Highland druid Christian MacKeltar has been captured by the Crimson Hag and is being driven deeper into Unseelie madness with each passing day. OMG, let me start by saying how much I have been anticipating this book. I am a humungous fan of all KMM books. She always delivers us passion, exceptional plots, and sexy – unforgettable characters.

In the latest Fever book, KMM not only delivered all the above but she threw us numerous shockers. Again I must stress if you haven’t read the book then STOP READING NOW. I don’t want to spoil the story for those who’ve yet to dive into this latest tale.

With that said………. My heart stopped beating on several occasions.

1.) We all know Ryodan’s look of interest – the notorious nod. Jo, his latest lover, has never turned him away. When she finally did, I was shocked. However, her bed wasn’t empty for long. Thanks to Mac, she went seeking out Lor who was pretending to be Pri-ya. His fakery was comical until Jo entered his sanctum. I didn’t expect a simple fuck fest to turn into him developing feelings for her. Oh yeah, I think Lor has it bad for her and, in time, I think she will return his feelings.

2.) When Dani went into the Hall of Mirrors and suddenly Jada appeared on the scene, I just knew they were one and the same. However, what I didn’t see coming was the twist KMM tossed out at us. Split personality….. Mac was right, it is like watching a soap opera and I LOVE IT. I love Ryo’s reaction when he realized Jada is Dani. His conversations regarding Dani/Jada were sweet, and we finally saw him unravel (as much as Ryo is capable of). If anyone doubted the respect he had for her, all doubts will be squashed. And I must say, I truly believe his feelings for (the now grown version of Dani) is love. He might not admit it out-loud yet, but he loves her.

Now as much as Jada adds heat and simple badassesness to the scenes, I miss fun loving Dani. I’m glad she emerged out of the mirrors 5+ years older, but I want the ice queen to fizzle out and the heart of gold Dani to emerge. Hopefully in the next book, we will see more of “Dana” back. Imagine this…..badass fighter, killer looks and a smart mouth attitude….. Ryo doesn’t stand a chance. If he hasn’t fallen yet, he will…. But then again, I still think he already has.

3.) Dageus, his dying and coming back to life, does this mean he is one of the Nine? I’m thinking….hell yeah!

4.) Welcome back, Christian. Missed ya!!!!!!!
