Rule Breaker by Lora Leigh (Book Review)

Lion Breed and enforcer Rule Breaker has just a few rules he doesn’t break. Not for anything. Not for anyone—like never have sex with a woman outside his own breed, especially a human woman. Especially someone too helpless, too fun loving and too full of life to ever be able to protect herself, let alone help him to protect her.

If the damned animal inside him insists on a mate, then why pick her? A woman who is an easy target and who can be used as a weapon against him at any time.
But what he suspects is mating heat may not be that at all. Just his animal instincts rioting, pacing, irritated whenever he’s away from her.
Okay, he can handle that. What ensues is a fiery affair that breaks all the rules of mating heat and will eventually endanger his mate with the very rules designed to protect the Breeds—for she’s possibly been working against them…

When Gypsy was fifteen, a very traumatic incident occurred which changed her and her family. She should’ve been able to turn to her parents; however, they were treated her like gum on the bottom of a shoe. Truly sad!

And Rule, bless his feline heart, was always there for her….watching and protecting for nine years.

I’m trying not to give away any spoilers because I hate when people divulge secrets/tidbits from new or relatively new releases. What I will say is this……As with her other books, the road to happily ever after isn’t smooth. If it was though, would we hang on Lora’s every word? Doubt it.

For fans of Gideon, he is back in this story and BOY does he know how to make an entrance. I can’t wait for his book or Dane’s, for that matter. These two, by far, are my favorite characters.

Review of ” Circle of Fire” – Keri Arthur

Sixteen teenagers taken from their homes. Eleven bodies recovered, each completely drained of blood. Some believe vampires are responsible, but Jon Barnett knows it’s something far worse. To stop the killers in Taurin Bay, he becomes enmeshed in a web of black magic and realizes he needs help. But fate gives him only one choice in the form of recluse Madeline Smith.

Madeline Smith has retreated to an isolated farmhouse, afraid of the psychic abilities she can’t control–abilities that have killed. But when “ghost” Jon Barnett brings a warning of danger and her nephew disappears, Maddie has to leave her haven. She also has to learn to control the abilities she fears and place her trust in Jon Barnett, a man who is neither human nor ghost.

But as the search for the teenagers becomes a race against time, and the noose of sorcery threatens to kill Maddie and Jon, the greatest danger to them both could be the feelings they have for each other–feelings that they refuse to acknowledge.

Like many of the readers who visit our blog, you’ve read one or half dozen shifter books. However, how many hawk shifter books have you read? Me, maybe a couple.

I think this was one reason why I couldn’t put the book down. It was refreshing to read a story dealing with something other than vamps or werewolves for a change. Now I am not knocking those books at all. I happen to love vamps and weres but like I said, this was not the norm and I welcomed the variety to a supernatural romance story.

Word of warning for those who like a lot of love scenes in their stories….. this book only had one. Keri wrote more about the longing to partake in the act, the emotions building between these two characters, than actually depicting the scenes in written format.

For me, I didn’t miss the sex and didn’t think the lack there of hindered the storyline at all.

Review of “Wulfe Untamed” – Pamela Palmer

BOOK EIGHT IN THE FERAL WARRIORS SERIES

The most enigmatic and tortured of the Feral Warriors, Wulfe is haunted by the quiet beauty of a human woman who no longer remembers him. Once a captive of both the Mage and the Ferals, Natalie stole a piece of his heart before he took her memories and sent her safely back to her fiancé. But now the Mage are threatening her again and Wulfe will risk anything to protect her.

Natalie Cash is stunned when she’s saved by a wolf who shifts suddenly into a splendidly built, if badly-scarred, man–a man with the kindest eyes. Swept into a world of intrigue and danger beyond her comprehension, she turns to the powerful Wulfe, finding a passion she’d only dreamed of. But when time runs out, they must trust one another and surrender to a wild, untamed love.

I can’t believe this is the final book in the series. I’ve followed the warriors over the years and have grown to love them more and more. It’s sad this is the end.

Pamela Palmer, you did an outstanding job with Wulfe’s story -with  all the men/women. Your tales have riveted me, moved me, and your talent is what writers (such as myself) strive to reach.

My only negative comment about this story was close to the end. She left us hanging with Grizz and  Sabine. Their story didn’t conclude and with the announcement of no more Feral stories, it won’t. However, I am still hopeful she’ll grace us with a short story and wrap up the loose ends with these two. Crossing fingers!!

Review of “One Lucky Vampire” – Lynsay Sands

Luck be a vampire tonight . . .

When Nicole Phillips agreed to hire a housekeeper, she pictured someone a little frumpy and almost certainly female. Instead, she gets gorgeous, unmistakably male Jake Colson. The man is proving indispensable in the kitchen—and everywhere else. Except Jake might not be a mortal man at all.

. . . and every night

Who wouldn’t want to be a tall, dark, powerful vampire? Jake, for one. He’s barely had time to adjust to his new state before he’s roped into a family favor. Still, secretly playing bodyguard to sweet, sexy Nicole is turning out to be the wildest ride of his life. First he’ll put a stop to whoever’s targeting her. Then he’ll prove that this kind of love, and luck, happens only once in an eternity.

This review was a tricky little bugger to write up because I didn’t absolutely love or dislike the story. It was, in my humble opinion, just okay.

The plot was (sorry if this irritates anyone) lackluster. I couldn’t get into it or the main characters.

However, there were things I found good/comical such as Jake and Nicole literally blackening out after sex. Loved Jake’s family. Dante and Tomasso were a hoot!
