Viper Game by Christine Feehan (Book Review)

GhostWalker Wyatt Fontenot knows the price he paid for the secret military experiments that gave him his special catlike abilities. After all, he left his bayou home a healer and came back a killer. While Wyatt and his GhostWalker brother Gator may have known exactly the sort of game they were getting into, Wyatt never anticipated where it would lead — or to whom.

The swamps hold many mysteries, but few are as sinuously seductive as Le Poivre de Cayenne. The woman the locals call Pepper is every bit as enigmatic as the three little girls she’s desperately trying to protect. From what, Wyatt is soon to discover. Right now Pepper needs a man like Wyatt. Passionately. But her secrets are about to take them both deeper into the bayou than either imagined — where desire is the deadliest poison of all.

What do you get when you mix a Ghostwalker, whose special “skill” is being the ultimate seductress, and an Alpha male who’s also a Ghostwalker?

A multitude of sex scenes where he’s able to unleash his Dom side to a very willing partner. And when I say willing, I mean she has to have sex A LOT to counteract the physical pain of Whitney’s “enhancements”.

Wow, what a hardship for Wyatt. 🙂

After you get past the shag fests, there is an interesting plot unfolding around them.

Whitney used an egg from Pepper and sperm from Wyatt to create children laced with snake DNA.

Can you imagine dealing with teething viper babies? Terrible two’s?

Luckily for these two, their babies don’t bite the good guys unless it’s by accident and that only happened ONCE in this story.

Other things to mention……

Trap reminded me of Sheldon Cooper (The Big Bang Theory). His friends gave him a book on manners and still attempt to educate on social situations. They are both scientists. Of course, Sheldon doesn’t have a spider for a girlfriend. Well, Trap doesn’t either……yet. 😀

The New Cowboy by Rebecca Winters (Book Review)

Living on her grandfather’s ranch, surrounded by her loving brothers and their families, is helping Avery Bannock put her painful past behind her. But ever since Zane Lawson came home, she’s been fighting her feelings for the rugged former Navy SEAL who’s sworn to keep her safe—in his arms.

After a decade undercover, Zane’s ready to settle in Montana horse country. Buying the ranch next to the Bannock spread was the first step. Now he’s got to convince the gun-shy archaeologist that he’s the only cowboy for her. As they work together to find out who’s stealing tribal artifacts from a nearby reservation, Zane will do everything in his power to win Avery’s trust…and turn their budding romance into a mission possible!

For the most part, I found the flow of the story lacking. I didn’t “connect” to the characters or the plot. I did find how Zane reacted/behaved towards Avery’s PTSD very sweet and endearing.

Furthermore, I did enjoy the Native American stories Avery told Zane. If you like Native American history, then I do think you’ll enjoy this story very much.

Southern Spirits by Angie Fox (Book Review)

When out of work graphic designer Verity Long accidentally traps a ghost on her property, she’s saddled with more than a supernatural sidekick—she gains the ability see spirits. It leads to an offer she can’t refuse from the town’s bad boy, the brother of her ex and the last man she should ever partner with.

Ellis Wyatt is in possession of a stunning old property haunted by some of Sugarland Tennessee’s finest former citizens. Only some of them are growing restless—and destructive. He hires Verity to banish the troublemakers for good. But Verity discovers there’s more to the mysterious estate than floating specters, secret passageways, and hidden rooms.

There’s a modern day mystery afoot, one that hinges on a decades-old murder. Verity isn’t above questioning the living, or the dead. But can she discover the truth before the killer finds her?

What I like about Angie’s books is the brilliant way she includes comedy in each of her stories. Her plots are irregular – which is a very good thing in my opinion.

No one wants to read a new book/series which appears to be “done” about a thousand times.

Her characters are not of the norm and, in this case, way – way – way out of the norm.

I mean, how many of us can say we read about a lady who owns a skunk as a pet and has a (sort of) friend who happens to be a gangster and a ghost?

Yeah, I thought that was pretty damn wicked cool too.

I think you’ll enjoy this read. That is if you like ghosts, poltergeists, hauntings….and a bit of a blooming romance with a hot cop. *winks*

Verity Long doesn’t want to see ghosts, and she’d rather not let anyone know her little secret, either. But when a restless spirit stirs up trouble in her friend’s vintage shop, Verity and her very new, very dead gangster friend are the only ones who can solve a decades old mystery.

Burned by Karen Marie Moning (Book Review) (Warning – Spoilers Included!)

MacKayla Lane would do anything to save the home she loves. A gifted sidhe-seer, she’s already fought and defeated the deadly Sinsar Dubh—an ancient book of terrible evil—yet its hold on her has never been stronger.

When the wall that protected humans from the seductive, insatiable Fae was destroyed on Halloween, long-imprisoned immortals ravaged the planet. Now Dublin is a war zone with factions battling for control. As the city heats up and the ice left by the Hoar Frost King melts, tempers flare, passions run red-hot, and dangerous lines get crossed. Seelie and Unseelie vie for power against nine ancient immortals who have governed Dublin for millennia; a rival band of sidhe-seers invades the city, determined to claim it for their own; Mac’s former protégé and best friend, Dani “Mega” O’Malley, is now her fierce enemy; and even more urgent, Highland druid Christian MacKeltar has been captured by the Crimson Hag and is being driven deeper into Unseelie madness with each passing day. The only one Mac can depend on is the powerful, dangerous immortal Jericho Barrons, but even their fiery bond is tested by betrayal.

It’s a world where staying alive is a constant struggle, the line between good and evil is blurred, and every alliance comes at a price. In an epic battle against dark forces, Mac must decide who she can trust, and what her survival is ultimately worth.

—–> Review (Spoilers Included) <—–

OMG, let me start by saying how much I have been anticipating this book. I am a humungous fan of all KMM books. She always delivers us passion, exceptional plots, and sexy – unforgettable characters.

In the latest Fever book, KMM not only delivered all the above but she threw us numerous shockers. Again I must stress if you haven’t read the book then STOP READING NOW. I don’t want to spoil the story for those who’ve yet to dive into this latest tale.

With that said………. My heart stopped beating on several occasions.

1.) We all know Ryodan’s look of interest – the notorious nod. Jo, his latest lover, has never turned him away. When she finally did, I was shocked. However, her bed wasn’t empty for long. Thanks to Mac, she went seeking out Lor who was pretending to be Pri-ya. His fakery was comical until Jo entered his sanctum. I didn’t expect a simple fuck fest to turn into him developing feelings for her. Oh yeah, I think Lor has it bad for her and, in time, I think she will return his feelings.

2.) When Dani went into the Hall of Mirrors and suddenly Jada appeared on the scene, I just knew they were one and the same. However, what I didn’t see coming was the twist KMM tossed out at us. Split personality….. Mac was right, it is like watching a soap opera and I LOVE IT. I love Ryo’s reaction when he realized Jada is Dani. His conversations regarding Dani/Jada were sweet, and we finally saw him unravel (as much as Ryo is capable of). If anyone doubted the respect he had for her, all doubts will be squashed. And I must say, I truly believe his feelings for (the now grown version of Dani) is love. He might not admit it out-loud yet, but he loves her.

Now as much as Jada adds heat and simple badassesness to the scenes, I miss fun loving Dani. I’m glad she emerged out of the mirrors 5+ years older, but I want the ice queen to fizzle out and the heart of gold Dani to emerge. Hopefully in the next book, we will see more of “Dana” back. Imagine this…..badass fighter, killer looks and a smart mouth attitude….. Ryo doesn’t stand a chance. If he hasn’t fallen yet, he will…. But then again, I still think he already has.

3.) Dageus, his dying and coming back to life, does this mean he is one of the Nine? I’m thinking….hell yeah!

4.) Welcome back, Christian. Missed ya!!!!!!!
