Interview with Mychael Black

1. Welcome, Mychael Black. For
those who might not be familiar with you, would you be a dear and tell the
readers a little about yourself? How did you get your start in the writing
business?
(ML) Thanks for having me! For readers
who don’t know me, I write erotic gay romance as Mychael Black, sometimes solo
and sometimes with my beloved co-author, Shayne Carmichael. I got into this
business kind of by accident, actually. I started writing short stories, then
sent one to Torquere Press. “Going Home” was my first foray into
writing as a full-time job. Shayne and I began writing together in 2005, same
year, I believe.
2.  All writers fear
the dreaded “block”. Please tell us how you handle it.
(ML) Whimper. Curse. Grumble. Snarl.
In all honesty, I put on the headphones and listen to music.
Or immerse myself in computer games and hope it unfries my brain.
3. Contrary to what some people envision about a romance
writer’s life, it’s not all glitz and glam. Well not for the majority of us.
With that bubble sadly busted, when you’re not writing, how to do you spend
your time?
(ML) *points up* Computer games. I’m a bonafide Bioware fangirl.
Dragon Age, Mass Effect–oh, yeah. I’m a sucker for rpg-style games. When I’m
not playing those, I’m usually just goofing off online or experimenting with
new recipes in the kitchen.
4. I know many writers, such as Dirk and myself, keep their
pastime/career a secret. Do those close to you know you write? If so, what are
their thoughts?
(ML) Most of my family knows, even my grandmothers.
Granted, both Mama and Dad have expressly stated to said grandmothers that they
don’t want to read my books. *laughs* But everyone pretty much knows. Aside
from my partner and my kids, though, my mom is my biggest supporter.
5. Will you share with us your all time favorite authors? If
you’re like me, it’s a long list so give us your top ten.
(ML) Oh, God. Believe me when I say this list is NOT in any sort
of pecking order:
1) Douglas Clegg
2) Glenna McReynolds
3) J.R.R. Tolkien
4) Jourdan Lane
5) Shayne Carmichael
6) Josh Lanyon
7) Alyx J. Shaw
8) Dan Brown
9) Sean Michael
10) Tory Temple
6. If you could choose one book to go to the big screen,
yours or otherwise, which book would you choose and whom would you love see
casted in the parts?
(ML) Wow. I’m not sure. Tell you what, though… I’d write
another whole novel just to see Johnny Depp play one of the main guys. *grins*
7. Would you care to tell us what you’re working on now?
That is if it’s not top-secret information. If so, just whisper it in my ear. I
swear it’ll go no further.
(ML) I’m working on several projects, actually. The two biggest
are sequels: Coriolis 2: Kill Fee and Secrets of Socendor 3 (as yet untitled).
Shayne and I are working on a short story as well, and I’m doing extensive edits
on a novel we wrote years ago.
8. Where can we find your stories and is there a particular
reading order?
(ML) All my books are on my website here:
http://www.mychaelblackbooks.com/
Each series has its own page, and all books are listed in
their correct reading order, top (first) to bottom (most recent).
9. Would you please share how your present and future fans
can contact you?
(ML) I’m always happy to answer emails at mychaelblack@gmail.com.
You can also find me at the following links. (I’m usually hanging out on
FaceBook during the day.)
http://www.mychaelblackbooks.com/
http://www.facebook.com/mychael.black
10. Before we conclude this enlightening interview, do you
have anything else you’d like to share? The stage is all yours.
(ML) Just to say thank you, Dirk and Kam, and a HUGE thanks to my
readers–current and future!
Wrap-up

There you have it, ladies and gents. I want to again thank
Mychael Black for stopping by and stay tuned because the talented author will be back on March 15th. *grins*
